What Roy Jones could do in the ring, with Gloves on..

    Was like what..

Michael Jordon could do on a basketball Court

    What

Ronnie O'csullivan can do with a Snooker table.

    What

Tiger Woods can do on a Golf Course..

    Maybe even greater..!!!!!!

Roy Jones Junior in my opinion is up there with Bruce Lee..

When i sometimes go on my runs with one of my freinds, we still talk about the "Behind the back K.O"....

    The 8 - 9- 10..Left Hooks in a Row..!

The Gamecock move, he pulled on James Toney..

    And more...

Roy Jones is the greatest of all-times, on pure ability..

It cannot be trainned, or installed into you...

Roy Jones Junior had something in him, some inner creativity...which made him fight like he did..!!!!!

    What a great great man..

    What a man..

Never again, will we see the likes of Roy Jones Junior..

    Never again...

I believe he was in the same league as those guys as well. Eventually they all grow old, slow down, and come down to earth, but Jones was certainly a special fighter, the likes we will most likely not see for a very long time.

I don't know what fight it was but..

Someone compared Roy Jones to Sugar Ray leonard..

And Sugar Ray Leonard was ringside commontating..

    And he replied..

"Its a great honour for me to be compared to Roy Jones, i don't think we have ever seen anything like him"

I think the capacity to withstand or recover from a hard shot constitutes an element of ability as well, and nobody ever stopped Sugar Ray Robinson with punches, let alone with a single shot, in 300 combined amateur and professional bouts held until he was 45 years old. (RJJ is only 40.)

Some people will probably rate Mayweather above him if he beats Cotto/Mosley but in reality Mayweather isnt in the same ball park as Jones. I'd agree hes the most talent P4P ever

    Nowhere near..

    On ability..

Floyd Mayweather is an immense athlete, who has had boxing drummed into him from a young age/programmed.

Floyd Mayweather is not as naturally gifted as Sugar Ray Leonard or Roy Jones Junior..

    Just watch how he fights..

He can't throw combinations that well..

Everything is scripted, his body movements..

Roy Jones could just go off script..

His Co-ordination was FAR FAR FAR superior to Floyd Mayweathers...

Both of these guys have something in common. Neither was ever interested in an all out war or a fight that would mess up their faces. The difference is Roy Jones, regardless of what a lot of people think, took huge physical risks, because almost always he was so much smaller than his opponents. These guys he was fighting at LH were big big guys.

I agree in that he did things in the ring we won't see again for a long time.

I think his "weak chin" is overplayed too. He's only been knocked out twice, and both were 15 years into his career.

Fail, he almost got starched by some southpaw.
But he was a special fighter.

Tiger Woods is gay and Tom Brady is lame and the Seattle Seahawks are still going to win the superbowl this year

The problem is, people overate flashy athletic ability when it comes to rating fighters in this manner. Armstrong has huge talents as well, but very different - swarming, violent, punch resistance, inflicting his plan, generalship, deploying heart, threading punches in the pocket, all ability just as valid as Jones's. How to compare them? Chalk and cheese after all...that's where the level of the test comes into play...

Jones may be more talented than Armstrong. Superficially, that appears to be the case. But Armstrong was basically as talented as it is possible for a fighter to be in keeping with his own style. But he unquestionably proved his talents to a greater degree.

Therefore, I think deducing that Henry is more talented than Jones was, is reasonable.

    Great post.

    It's more than reasonable.

Jones was a talent who captured the imagination of a generation by his showboating style. he got away with his errors whilst he was young and fresh. In the autumn of his career he had neither the techical skills, chin or fortitude to do what Ali, Moore and even Hopkins did.

I just remember Roycott and that comissioner who predicted that since Jones would be unable to cheat the new drug test that he would lose the rematch to Tarver.
