Easy to look good against a guy who's pretty much a heavy-bag nowadays.

 

i understand, i guess some fighters cant let go of the money, i think that is the only reason jones is still boxing, he should have retired 5 years ago, go out as a hero. he didnt need to prove himself to anyone

 

No. His shoulder ripped apart and left him in pieces before the Calzaghe fight. He was nothing but a come-forward guy with decent punching skills and above average power anyway.

There's always been that debate about whether Roy's opponents were that bad or if he mad them look that bad. Some were indeed subpar, but I always point out that the supposed "bum" Roy dominated on the same night he played a minor league basketball game was future Super Middleweight belt holder Eric Lucas.

In some cases, it really was Roy being that special he made legitimate fighters look a few tiers below reality.

 

james toney, reggie johnson, montell griffin, john ruiz, clinton woods, bernard hopkins...

 

Don't ever say that - the ESB hordes will jump upon you with lines like:

"who should he have fought then?" or "they were good fighters, he just made them look bad!"

Without realising that he looked more or less the same against Lacy as the other no-hopers he fought when he was claiming to the GOAT and an ATG during the last decade.

Soon as he fought guys with a pulse or the style to trouble him anywhere near their primes: he didn't look so super then.

He was an impressive fighter in his day, but the lack of genuine challenges reflect badly on him and diminish his impressive skills.
