anyway i mean Orlin Levance Norris nicknamed : Night Train/ Juice , The
i think he is heavily underrated here .
gave a close fight to nielsen , went 1:1 SD's with the much bigger tucker , went the distance with Akiwande , outpointed McCall , and then some.
i can understand why Ruiz achieved more h2h , but p4p it's not that simple.
ruiz stopped an older tucker and was also closer in size to him than norris.

I know I was making a little joke about the post above mine. That guy was describing a different Norris than Ive ever seen. Tucker was a non factor really to either, he was long gone before either faced him. Ruiz has wins over Rahman, Oquendo, Mcline, Golota, and Holyfield. That in itself does it for me. Nielson is an underated boxer himself but probably on the same level as Norris, and Nielson won. Akinwande and Mcall eh, Mcall was easy to outbox and Akinwande just sucked. Neither was great, Ruiz has the better resume and wins.

I assume that I'm "that guy."

This is a head to head match-up. It doesn't matter if Ruiz has a better heavyweight record than Norris. It doesn't matter whether or not Ruiz could defeat Norris. All that matters is how Jones and Norris match up in the ring. Norris and Jones are the same height. Norris has the bigger frame, Jones a 4 inch reach.

Here's some footage of Norris' split decision loss to Tony Tucker. Please remember that this is 6 1/2 years before Ruiz faced Tucker. I also think that Norris is in with a better opponent that night, than the Ruiz defeated by Jones.

Notice how Norris isn't trying to outbox Tucker. Notice how he tries to get close and let his hands go. Then realize that Norris has a better combination of size, speed and power than anyone Jones ever faced, and Jones will be the smaller man while doing so.

In regards to the original post....Jones may win the fight but many posters seems to believe that it would be a complete mismatch... Orlin had good defense..Ruiz was completely hand picked for Jones due to his speed deficiencies...Norris was speedy enough and did not need to worry about Jones' power so this makes the fight much more even... I remember that Spinks did some careful handpicking of his heavy opponents and when he was suppsoed to fight Tucker for the vacant title...he refused to fight...but still I think Tucker would have beat his ass had they fought.... so I dont think Jones is anywhere that much of a threat to many good top heavyweight contenders of the nineties or eighties... especially those like tucker or Douglas or the taller fighters.....

While Jones has great handspeed for man his size, he does not posses the type of power or mobility to keep Frazier off of him. Frazier provides the fastest pressure in the history of the Heavyweight division. Jones can pot shot and move for maybe 3 rounds maximum against Frazier; after that he will be caught. Essentially, Jones would have to knock Frazier out to win. When Frazier warms up and starts to trap Jones, then Roy will be in big trouble as he will taken out of there in no time. He does not posses the type of durability of Ali to sustain the type of punishment Joe will give him and still compete.

Think of when Joe Frazier fought Bob Foster.
