An offer? He was his mandatory next opponent, and Jones avoided him. I'm pretty sure it was before he moved up as well. Not to say Jones couldn't have beaten Nunn or any of his possible opponents, but he didn't fight everyone there was to fight is my point. You can't outrank the guys in the top 10 of all time based purely on in-ring ability if you don't prove it nearly as much as they did.
Man, it's all about who's ranking the fighters. I'm sure you could break down any fighter and say they avoided this guy or that guy.
That was not the same Nunn who blasted out Kalambay. When Nunn was the mandatory for Roy he already was shot so i cannot blame Roy for not taking that fight. The Nunn pre-Toney would be a different case,i would have paid to see that fight because Nunn in his prime was awesome.
Nunn was always a tad overrated in my view, and Roy would've always beaten him, but a mandatory is a mandatory. And who did Roy face in his place, if you remember?
Nunn was the mandatory after Jones moved up to light-heavy.I believe he was the number 1 contender for the wbc light-heavy title.
Nunn's lifestyle outside the ring is wat made his prime short,he was already involved in dealing cocaine on a grand scale in Iowa and using it,before his fight with Toney. He has nobody to blame than himself for that. After not being able to fight Roy, Nunn went to Germany and lost a wide decision to Rochigianni while in reality it was a close fight. At that time Rochigianni had a lawsuit against the wbc. Roy beat a shot McCallum for the interim title, the wbc made him a full champ(as a result a lawsuit by Rochigianni). The contenders Roy beat at light-heavy were nothing special and Nunn certainly wasn't a lesser fighter than them and deserved his shot. I however do not consider Roy a "ducker" for not taking this fight because Nunn was to far away for his prime. It would have been the same fight and outcome like the McCallum fight.
