And wasn't Johnson the one who almost put Jones into a assisted living hospice ??

Which funnily enough directly coincided with Calzaghe running for the hills...you do the math.

Thanks for proving my argument though, up until Johnson fought Jones Calzaghe was running off at the mouth about fighting him. After that fight it was 'erm, I've got divorce troubles' then it was 'I've hurt my back'

Yep, problems with his back - big yellow streak would be my guess.

Not at all. I expected Calzaghe to win. After all he'd waited 10 years for a weak champ to appear before he tried to unify. I don't mind people saying Calzaghe has been a good 168 champ because he obviously has, but he could have been so much more, but never had the bollocks. That's how he will be remembered by followers of the sport. The nut-huggers can think what they like.

Yeah and no doubt people were calling him a yellow ***** for pulling out of the Lacy fight... that is until he actually fought Lacy

Maybe, y'know.. just MAYBE Joe had legitimate reasons for not fighting Glen.

And maybe... just MAYBE had they fought, Joe would have handled him like he has all other opponents... ever!

Now stfu, find a big rock, start crawling.

Oh **** 10 years as champ and all he has to defend his resume is Jeff Lacy and Mikael Kessler :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl

Yes I'm sure his wife calling him names was a major distraction leading up to the Glen Johnson fight, poor Joe.

As I said, it's no surprise that Calslappys getting brave now, I fully expected it. Back when it REALLY counted though, Joe took on bums rather than go for Jones and Hopkins, not to mention Johnson. He might beat them now, but to those in the know Calzaghes career is all smoke and mirrors.

Well if he's so damn good why didn't he unify earlier? Simple question.

Seriously people like you are whats wrong with Eastsideboxing forums. Talking about something you actually know Jack**** about.

The people who held the other SMW belts who Calzaghe didnt fight whilst he was champion are Sven Ottke, Eric Lucas, Manny Siaca, Marcus Beyer.

Calzaghe DID fight Reid, Woodhall, Brewer and Mitchell who were the other champion around that time but they didnt have the belts when Calzaghe fought them. If anything fighting a former world champion whos just lost on points for instance, you dont get as big a payday, you dont get another belt, everything to lose and not much to gain. What if Calzaghe had fought Reid, Woohall etc while they actually had belts ? People wouldnt be saying **** about Joe then apart from "omg he's 7 time world champion" .

Truth is whilst they had belts they wanted no part of Joe. Then 1 or 2 fights later after they've lost them they want a crack at Joe because he's then got a belt and they havent.

There was more than 1 offer made to both Ottke and Beyer to unify, but they wanted no part.

Joe Calzaghe pulled out of 2 Glen Johnson fights, one with a back injury and another with a wrist injury.

Calzaghe was going to pull out of the Lacy fight aswell with a hand injury but Frank Warren said he wasnt going to get him another big fight if he pulled out of this one, so Joe went ahead anyway.

Lets be honest, Calzaghe would have absolutely murdered Ottke, Lucas, Siaca and Beyer. I honestly dont care that he didnt fight them because I already know what the result would be. He's actually fought better more dangerous champions IMO like Sheika, Brewer etc......not forgetting that Reid/Brewer/Mitchell ALL got robbed in Germany against Sven "decision" Ottke.

There's also people who pulled out against Calzaghe like Thomas Tate, one of the better names on Roy Jones Jr's resume. He pulled out of a fight 2 days before forcing Calzaghe to fight Mger Mchigan (However u spell it).

Yeah it would have been nice to have had a Glen Johnson vs Calzaghe fight, but it didnt happen. No one was scared of anyone, as your suggesting.

roy may still have quicker hands than joe, but no way is his footspeed there anymore. the guy has no legs, didn't you all see him lying on the ropes in his last fight.

this would be a brutal beatdown and would serve no purpose for either guy, go retire roy, you're done.

When Roy smashes Tito, and if he can avenge Glen Johnson a few months after, then this fight is a possibility! But Roy would be 40 by then, just beat Johnson then let it go Roy, You have done everything you can and more, and the real fight fans will appreciate what you did for boxing regardless.

Calzaghe has massive respect for Prime Jones.

Calzaghe would literally kill Roy in the ring now. But only out of respect, to prevent Roy tarnishing Prime Jones' legacy any further.
