Wraps cost Green date with Executioner DANNY WEIDLER January 17, 2010 BERNARD HOPKINS'S interest in fighting Danny Green was all but wiped out by the controversy over the hand wraps Green used in his victory over Roy Jones jnr in Sydney. Jones jnr's management has told us that Hopkins has agreed to fight Jones jnr - most likely at the end of April in Las Vegas. ''Bernard heard about what Green did, saw the wraps,'' said McGee Wright, Jones' manager. ''That was a big factor when we were doing the negotiation for the fight. When Hopkins fought against Felix Trinidad in New York he made Trinidad re-wrap his hands three times. Green would not get away with what he did against Roy.'' Green also missed out on the fight because he wanted to fight Hopkins in Australia. ''It wasn't a money issue - that's something Danny's camp want to tell people. It was because Danny wouldn't fight Bernard in America.'' But Wright has offered Green a fight on the Hopkins undercard. ''Yeah, I want to make an offer to Danny - I will fight him,'' Wright said. ''It will be in a Mixed Martial Arts format and we will be on the undercard. He looked at me after the [Jones jnr] fight and instead of being a gracious winner he wanted to carry on. I'll give it to him in the ring. We gave Danny's manager an 'f - you' by beating him to the Hopkins fight and I'll whip his boxer's behind in the ring if he has the courage to face me.'' Why would Green give a **** when he Ko'd Roy in 1? Green should fight him and smash his fat bald head in and take the Oz TV for his trouble!!
He has to sell this fight somehow... when Hopkins does him in less time he'll have that excuse wiped away
this coming from Roy jones jr Crew and ehhhh if i recall was Roy not taking a banned drug at one stage of his career and yet we never hear about that **** do we? Just can't wait to hear his next excuse when Bhop smokes him badly.
Jones seriously should not have fought Lacy. A fight with an overhyped shot fighter who ended up being a punching bag blew up RJJ's head waaaay too big... It gave Jones the false impression that he could still cut it in the big league. Only Lacy is not the Big League...
errrrr.... When did Taj start managing RJJ?:think Has to be him..... Can't be 2 people that dumb inhabiting the same planet...
Smart move by Bernard, as Green wouldve retired him. Bernard is cashing out, he will beat Jones and then beat up on another semi-name to milk the fans. Bernard has earned it I guess, but what shits me is how he continues to talk himself up - when he is blatently ducking the likes of Dawson and now Green. If I was studying form, like the GGs, Id make the assessment that the formlines around Joe Calzaghe are very suspect. Hopkins gets alot of credit for nearly beating Joe, but at the end of the day, JCs biggest wins in Kessler - since beaten by a prospect. Roy Jones - since knocked out by Green in 1. Jeff Lacy - embarrassed by old man Jones and Lacy hasnt really amounted to much. Joe Calzaghe is massively overrated, but he has one thing in common with Hopkins, they both wanted nothing to do with Dawson - who wouldve been far too slick. As for Roys sooking, its not unusual for Roy to look for excuses.
Some of your points are valid but you left out the bit where Hopkins completely embarrased Pavlik in the last 2yrs. So unless you think Pavlik is overrated than that victory has a lot of merit. Jury still out on Kessler's performance against Ward........ If he comes back and takes care of Froch as i think he will do, i believe Kessler still has the ability to beat most of the top guys at 168 and even 175lbs
Pavliks a slugging grinder, his style was never suited against Bernard - who is a crafty, well skilled veteran who hasnt been KOd to date, so at the end of the day, if Pavlik didnt KOd nard, then he I never fancied him to win. I dont think Pavlik is overrated, but I think Bernard was more of a stylistic nightmare for him, especially because he couldnt win by KO, when most of Pavliks wins have came that way. Also, I think Greens style is more relentless and doesnt let up, I think he would be the first to KO Hopkins, because its exactly what Bernard doesnt need at this stage of his career. The Green fight wouldve happened over a year and half after Hopkins fight with Pavlik and when your as old as Nard, then a year is a big deal
Nah, I think Calzaghe wins, even if I think he is overrated. He to had a granite chin and a hell of a work ethic, so Pavlik wouldnt KO him, then JC would win by UD.
would not say his chin was granite as he has eaten canvas a number of times but he does have a strong heart to keep on fighting....But Joe is VERY VERY overrated in my eyes....Beat Jones and Kessler but Personally I think Hopkins beat him. I do think Green could have beaten Joe, The power he had would be hard for joe to handle and if he was rocked by Hop and Jones just think if Green landed on that chin.
Green could never land on Calzaghe, if he did it would only make Calzaghe laugh. Kessler landed his best punch on Calzaghe and couldn't hurt him and you saw how Kessler knocked Beyer out, something Green couldn't do. Hopkins knockdown was just good timing to catch Calzaghe off balance and the Jones knockdown was his forearm not a glove. I'd say Jones is a better puncher than Green anyway.
Yep cos Beyer REALLY came to fight in that one! Greens punching power is laughing material for no-one, what a TWAT!
Green was wiping the floor with Beyer in thier first encounter. He was never going to last and was likely to end up in and A&E somewhere getting a brainscan. He was punching Beyer to pieces and was only a matter of punches away from Beyer laying spread eagle on the canvass.
