Yea he was way ahead on the cards v The "Runcorn kid" lol , but thanks for agreeing with me about Green i knew you had it in you to be reasonable enough to man up .:good
Do you think Joe was "On song " That night ? Myself i thought he fought poorly , ive seen him fight worse live but that night he was **** and Reid fought well and if i'm being totally honest here thats the one fight he came closest to losing and a decent arguement could be made for giving Robin the nod , it was one of those fights .
Green himself said in an interview just prior to the RJJ fight that if he had fought Joe Calzaghe he would have suffered form Leather poisoning for a week. Look at the fellas who beat Green, then look again at JC. He may be overrated but that is precisely what you are doing with Green. Joe beat BHop , before he beat Pavlik and after an excellent performance against Tarver. He beat an undefeated Lacy and ruined him. He beat an undefeated Kessler, who was at his peak, Ward did a better job on a different day. He beat Chris Eubank who would have beaten Danny Green to a pulp. He beat Charles Brewer who was only a non champion due to controversial decisions against Ottke. He beat Woodhall . He beat Reid. He beat everyone he fought one way or another. He beat RJ after being floored with a fore arm. He beat Hopkins and the ref in the states. Green is an exciting strong fighter, but plenty of worse fighters than Calzaghe have taken his best shots. If everyone he fought went down like Jones you might have a case, but they didn't. So if choc Mundine could beat him, the same choc who lost to Kessler and Ottke ( although i think that was a superb performance bearing in mind his experience ), how on earth can Danny Green. Leather poisoning is all he would have got that night.
Did you pick Vince Philips to beat Kostya?? This fighter beat that fighter who took a good puch from the other fighter....blah...balh...blah... Fights are one on the night not in retrospect with a whole bunch of what ifs. I take nothing from the an argument which invloves historical match ups. It makes for good conversation but only can be argued as a matter of opinion....and we all have one.
Green is the type of fighter that Joe used to thrive on fighting. Kessler is a far more polished fighter than Green and at times Calzaghe made him look very robotic, even though that I think it was Calzaghe's toughest fight.
Too bad Kessler ran sideways at the thought of fighting Green, I would have loved to see that fight :yep
I hate to say it, (from Oz POV) but nobody beats Joe. He wasn't brainwashed with "A" plan. If one thing didn't work, he kept working until he found one that did, that's the reason (IMO) why all the good ones went the distance with him. His loopy Pitter patter & constant movement that often had himself off balance, created unconventional frustration, but all the time they were getting outpointed. He was one of the few fighters in living memory who settled for a winning plan above everything else, & didn't risk it. Joe's Motto would have been the classic, "When you're on a good thing,,,stick to it". Legend.
Had Reid had an ounce of luck , he would have beaten the two most dominant super middles in history , not bad for a porn star
Aside from the RJJ olympic gold medal fight, the Ottke/Reid fight is probably the biggest robbery I've seen. Porn star?
