And I very much highly doubt Benn would turn any fight with Jones down. That's a load of bull**** right there. Benn wasn't ducking or dodging nobody.
That wasnt what happened. During the interview he just said he offered big money fights to the other fighters in his divison he never said any names. If Collins was offered a serious offer, why was he still chasing Jones into 97? And then you would have to explain what happened in 1999 Jones during an interview at the ibhof(in 96) said he would consider fighting Benn if he got past Collins, Benn lost and looked horrible in the process, so what would of been the point of offering Benn a fight. Benn was 0-3 in 96 It was Liles who was chasing Jones for a fight Hopkins would of been a mw champion for one year, why make him an offer? Why would he offer Nardiello a fight, when Brewer was his mandatory and waiting for a shot?
All this "risk" is bull****. A loss to Jones was expected. It didn't diminish your future earnings that much. 60/40 I kick yo ass!
The TS inital post is quoted incorrectly, I remember watching that interview on youtube and that isnt how it went Jones wanted nothing to do with Liles or Nunn
Bull**** Farhood had been a Jones nuthugger since his days with Ring magazine and KO Magazine. They were almost as bad as HBO in keeping the charade that Jones was this great superman.
Ha! Nigel Collins was no ones *****? Nigel Collins has been a ****ing shill since day one. Hell, the guy is currently employed by GBP what do you call that? He currently resides over the worst incarnation of the Ring (and there have been some bad ones) in its 88 year history which can be directly attributed to the directions hes taken the magazine in over the past several years and that often means toeing the line for large promotional outfits and networks, all of whom bring advertising revenue for his magazine. Does he occasionally beat them up in order to give the appearence of impartiality? Sure. But then he goes right back to toeing the company line again. That rag of a magazine is currently at arguably its lowest readership, lowest distribution point, highest dollar amount, and lowest quality in its history and for the first time in my life that I can remember I have neglected to renew my subscription and even if I could find it on newstands (which I cant) I wouldnt waste my money. That ought to tell you a little something about how great Nigel Collins is at his job...
Damn I didnt know things were that bad for the Ring Magazine. I rarely buy boxing magazines these days I tend to rely on the net for my boxing info. What I remember happening was there was a panel with Lampley, Borges, Farhood and a couple of other guys and they were asking Jones questions like: Panel: Will you give Toney a rematch? Jones:Maybe when he stops fighting dead bodies Panel:What effort have you made to make fights? Jones:I have made big offers to the other champions in my division He never mentioned any particular names. For example Benn was basically shot by 96, he went 0-3 in his last 3 fights, what would of been the point of Jones offerring shot Benn a fight?
well theres video of Collins coming to Jones after fights and asking for his shot, going to Jones face
