Calzaghe wasn't ever gonna be a walk-over for anybody. I make prime RJJ favourite (just) but it's competitive all day long and JC would work Jones all night - whilst punching. Don't judge JC on BHop & RJJ (both of which he won remember, like it or not) the version at this point could hit and hurt. he put Chris Eubank down twice whose chin was in a different solar system to that of RJJ (as was his talent in the opposite direction - for balance!!). Overall - shame it didn't happen it would have been fun.
All fighters struggle to make weight to some degree, that's not what I was saying. Struggle or not he maintained that weight.
No he didn't - he fought at heavyweight once and was magnificent. His weight didn't yo-yo it gradually climbed as he matured in early part and then he took on a big challenge moving to h/w.
Yeah, it was a stinky foul. That the first time you seen it? Griffin was a solid fighter. The rematch is pretty insane, although I'm assuming you've seen that one. :yep
Ive seen the ending to 1 before and maybe the whole fight but i didnt rememeber it. 2 ive obviously seen- like 10 times. I think also, Roy sort of hits him in the back of the head to wobble him first of all...maybe twice..he then lands a good left and Montell goes down to take a knee to get himself together.......then....well...
Yeah, then he leapfrogged back down to LHW again and fought Tarver with no tune-up... At a pretty advanced age. I don't think he was magnificent again after that.
As Emmanuel Steward said, Calzaghe would be a problem for Jones even in his prime. Not that Jones wouldn't win, but Calzaghe's speed, ring smarts, and most importantly, awkward southpaw style would pose problems for Jones no matter when they fought. And at 168, I'm not quite as certain of the outcome as I would be at 175.
Who was Griffin? He was never a unified or undisputed champion. Did some of you Jones nuthuggers even know he was winning on one of the scorecards and the other 2 were very close in their first fight? Griffin was a nobody period and it is laughable that the Jones fans are trying to make him anything but that. He is exactly the type of opponent Jones fought from about 1997 to 2003. Pitiful. You can't say because Jones beat Montel Griffin he would beat Calzaghe. That is idiotic on so many levels.
No argument with that buddy - but you did say he best part of two decades sliding between m/w & h/w. I agree that finished him and a past prime JC beat an old RJJ
nah, Montell was a really good fighter. He had Jones struggling in their first fight. Also has a W over Toney
what version of JOe. for your dreams im assuming you mean the faded version that jones lost to. or are we talking PRime?
Slapzagay :rofl:rofl:rofl jones wud KO Calzaghe the jones that came out against Griffen 2 was motivated and wanted to destroy his opponent badly
