Montel Griffin held 2 wins against James Toney and was undefeated when him and Roy met.... He was hardly a bum.:deal

Is that why Toney lost many times to fighters far worse than Calzaghe and Hopkins at the same point in his career as Joe, got beaten decisively by anyone who wasn't a Hopkin fan at the start of the fight?

    Get over it.

You said Roy was never tested in his prime against anybody of Joe's caliber, Hopkins and Toney are clearly up to par with Joe. You don't have to knock Roy's resume to try and argue Joe's case, becuase the more you do that the more credibility Joe loses for his victory over the shell of Jones.:deal

This matchup has been done to death. But in any case its pretty much a no brainer. The 97 Jones woulda beat the crap outta Calz. Even JOE says he couldnt beat a prime Jones, so idk why its even a debate.

the JOe from the mitchell fight was closer to peak or even the Joe from the Viet fight. had power speed and a great chin. i would pick joe. on outworking RJJ . 7-5 . and both fighters were not near their primes and diminished enough to show us a glimpse.

It is funny how even Joe admits he would have lost and yet still people try to say he wouldn't.
Did these people even watch any Jones Jr fights around that time he was far to good for Joe or really anyone that comes to mind.

Jones, Jr in a competitive UD, perhaps an SD.

Griffin’s movement and jab gave Jones all sorts of problems in the first fight. It was incredibly close – I think Griffin may have been up on one card, actually – or level.

Jones’ flagrant foul was as a direct result of Griffin frustrating him for nearly seven rounds. Roy could be taken out of his game – it wasn’t just a bad night. Guys with quick hands, good movement, who were unafraid to take a shot, and weren’t policemen would give Jones trouble – which is why he avoided solid opposition. The man is a mirage – a supremely talented fighter who never proved himself and could look very ordinary against anything resembling a prime, capable opponent.

Calzaghe had the speed, enough power and the awkward style to give Jones fits. I think it’s a 55-45 edge to Roy because he’s that bit faster, that bit more explosive and was more defensively adept due to his reflexes. Calzaghe poses questions with his work rate, excellent jab, and combo punching.

I think they’d cancel each other out for large portions of the fight.

Who cares? Time machines don't exist. The only thing that matters is Calzaghe did this to Jones.

I seem to remember him saying something to the extent of Jones being unbeatable
