Maybe, but just wondering if "Joe was to green to beat Roy, would have been as fair to say as "Roy was to shot to beat Joe :p

    I think Jones....... TKO2.

I'm not especially a fan of either guy, but they are on completely different levels. Calzaghe never beat a proven world class fighter in their prime, and made almost 20 bull**** defences of a bull**** title.

The Jones that beat Griffin would destroy Calzaghe inside 6 rounds. And I'm a big fan of Joe.

Why? Why can no one actually give clear analysis of what makes Roy such a clear and easy winner?

First of all, let me say ive never said Calzaghe would beat Jones.....but..

this talk of 'the roy that beat montell' is so stupid it shows how dumb boxing fans can be. Why dont you say the montell that beat Roy? how would Calzaghe do then. Okay Jones caught Montell early and finished him-what is this exactly showing match-up wise if Roy fought Calzaghe?

is there actually any Roy fans who have given a proper analysis stating why Roy would win, or given one without shitting on joe, or even given one stating joe might have staged some probs for Roy.

The fact of the matter is Jones was too much of a beast for Joe and would win a UD with Joe making every round close and possibly winning a good few as well, Joe would be beaten but not overwhelmed ... end of.

Roy’s tactics in the second Griffin fight were bang on – he knew he couldn’t let Griffin get into his rhythm, so he went in to bang him out of there. He knew he could get away with it because Montell had neither the speed nor the power to really make Jones pay for those huge, wide hooks and his poor balance.

Calzaghe, circa Mitchell and Veit, DID have the speed and power to throw between those hooks. He also had the chin to take it in return. He got a bit sloppier after beating Lacy – walking onto shots more often, trying to out-macho his opponents – you could see his natural skills diminish after that – his head movement was less effective and he was more prone to walk into an opponent’s range and get clipped.

You’re right though, Griffin isn’t Calzaghe, even stylistically, so there was no way Roy could approach that fight in the same way.

That punch that old Roy knocked Calzaghe down with? Great shot, but that was one of his few moments of success in 12 rounds. Joe would always fire back and, in trouble, he was more likely to uncork a hard shot – which is what took Mitchell out. Roy knew that now, but was he so aware of his fragility back then? Maybe not, so maybe Joe would have gotten a chance to catch Jones early.

Most likely, Roy wouldn’t have let Joe swarm in on him like that where he needed to throw and inside upper-cut. And let’s not forget, he caught Joe with his forearm, not his fist – that was a million to one KD.

I maintain this would be a close fight because both fighters’ attributes and natural styles would cancel key components of each others’ game out. Jones had the variety and explosiveness to maybe win it, but Joe was relentless – have any of his opponents NOT looked exhausted by the end of the match?
