Jones by late TKO. Calzaghe struggles to clearly win one round. Joe C has no way to stop taking clean head shots from a fighter who is better than him in his own strongest areas (speed, energy), and no way to cope with the dimensions that Jones has which he does not (punch power, punch accuracy).

Jones would've wrecked Calzaghe if they had fought in their respective primes.

the toney that fought jones was weight drained
in poor shape for the fight
had feet stuck on cement because of it.

roy was in shape /focused/up for it and enjoyed himself potshotting using his faster feet and hands to get in and out before james could counter.

toney needed roy to fight a silly fight and stand right and front of him and trade ala /thornton/barkly/williams who he beat in the run up to the fight.

roy fought his own fight and stuck to his own gameplan.

calzaghe IMO especially early to mid career would have lost to this version of jones, albeit put up a much better fight than james did because of there styles.

lets look at the 4 main areas that would seperate the winner of this fight

    1) - chin
jones has no chin.....none. calzaghe has an atg chin, knocked down but never hurt and never once put on ***** street in his entire career. everytime calzaghe got put down, he came back and fought fire with fire, winning the remainder of the round. everytime jones got hurt, it was the end of the fight.

    2) - fighting in adversity
jones is famous for folding like a lawn chair everytime he needed to fight in adversity. calzaghe is the master of fighting in adversity, the master at staring trouble in the face and then finding the will and charisma to come through the other side with a victory. this is what seperates the men from the boys.

    3) adaptability - jones had none, if his game plan wasn't working, he was beaten. calzaghe was the master of adapting during a fight, if it wasn't working, calzaghe made changes, he could fight going backwards, he could fight going forwards. it didn't matter what joe was facing, he would find a way, there was never a blueprint of how to beat joe calzaghe.

    4) drugs testing - jones is a proven drugs cheat, failing a drugs test for banned anabolic steroids by the IBF. although joe loved to snort coke in his retirement, he never once failed a drugs test in his entire career.

Jones and its not even close. Calzaghe was a great fighter, Jones was a once in a lifetime kind of fighter.

Jones by possible TKO. Was too good in his prime for Joe C.

I think Calzaghe in his prime, which was not the one that fought Kessler would at least be relatively competitive and win a few rounds before losing by UD.

Unfortunately I'm not sure if we ever got to see the best of Joe other than perhaps against Kessler. Joe was sadly rarely ever forced to bring out the best of himself.

Roy was an athletic highlight reel and always intent on showing-off his best. So it seems based on what we saw Roy would of had the advantage.

However, sorry to have to wonder, but was Roy clean back then? Did he not admit to using PEDS?

Was Toney at his best when he fought Roy, did he not have to lose a ton of weight for that fight? Did we ever see the best of Toney? Was Kessler not injured, arm or hands for the Calzaghe fight, was that the best he could of done?

We'll never know any of this, we can only guess.

In the words of Roger Mayweather "What the **** you say"
Dude Prime Jones would have beat the **** out Joe. Jones didn't have a bda chin in his prime and how are you going to sit their and say he couldn't adapt? We are not talking about post Ruiz Jones but the one who beat Toney. Hell even a shot to **** old ass Roy Jones knocked Calzaghe down. Imagine a prime Jones.
