I mean, as far as I know religion doesn't tell people that the God created the world 6000 years ago. I'm from Catholic country though, so maybe you're talking about some less credible Christian churches.
That's the point though, Fitz was better at grappling than Roy, so why do you believe that he'd not be able to clinch him? It's not possible to run away from clinch, unless you'll literally run away from your opponent. I hope you don't suggest that Roy would run away from Fitz.
Honestly, some traditional fundamentalist Protestant and Orthodox Jewish people do hold to this. But even they try to make actual arguments; not just "I believe this because I was indoctrinated to."
You should take a look at some of the theist vs atheist debates, that can be found on YouTube. I find them very interesting! Quite a few (very intelligent, I may add!) people believe, God created our earth between 10,000 and 6,000 years ago. About 40% of all Americans believe this to be true. 4 in 10 Americans Believe God Created Earth 10,000 Years Ago | Live Science
As I said, Protestants don't have the best foundation of their beliefs. I hope you understand that not everyone Christian believes in that. If not, then it's you who are indoctrinated I'm afraid.
And even the ones who do usually don't believe it like mindless, brainwashed robots, which is the ultimate issue. Or and least no more mindlessly than most people believe other stuff.
No, of course not every Christian believes that. Why would you even suggest, that I have been indoctrinated to believe that?
Right, so the initial comments that sparked the controversy were: 1) "You are now in a belief system that is akin to religion. It doesn't matter what you see in reality and what makes sense, you're going on what you think you're supposed to believe." 2) "So ridiculous. So just like religion, don't trust your own opinion and common sense- trust what you're being told.... Don't trust what you see yourself because people smarter or better somehow are telling you what to think..." -- These are comments that you defended by pointing to how some specific American fundamentalists rejected the findings of modern evolutionary biology and geology. But the original comments didn't point to a specific group being irrational. They were speaking generally of all religion. Hence, I assume, 70s Fan's belief that you were defending comments that attacked all religion indiscriminately.
Let me make one thing clear: I'm an atheist - but that doesn't mean, that I believe everybody who believes there is a God, is an idiot. Some very intelligent people (as I have already said) are deeply religious... and everybody of course has the right to believe in whatever he or she choses. My main "case" is, that we are influenced by what we're told. You say yourself that: "Pretty much the entirety of Western education revolves around being told things". So would you not agree, that those who believe there is a God, do so because they have been told, that that's the right thing to do? This is the only point, I've been trying to make!
I was just explaining why 70sFan was interpreting your posts as condemning religion. It sounds like this wasn't your intention, which is good. I just figured you'd want to know why the impression had arisen in the first place. Secondly, yes. Totally agree that most people believe what they've been told. But the comments that were made (not by you) implied that there was something *unique* about religious people believing what they were told.
