GGG would be outclassed- he has never seen speed and power like that . I remember when Jones made Thulane Maligna look like a novice. The same Maligna who would become a two time champion. Jones was a special talent you see ONCE in a lifetime of your lucky .
So basically what the majority of posters here are saying is that no man born to his mother would have landed on RJJ or clipped RJJ in his prime. Thats a preposterous statement it really is. Everyone is human and everyone gets clipped from time to time. Of course a prime RJJ could have been clipped or caught. Is there a more accurate and deadlier puncher than GGG at MW? Just surprised here at the level of certainty here that its impossible to clip a prime RJJ. After all as his later career shows, he hardly has an iron mandible underneath all that.
Jones would win very easily but he competed competed in a different era with less emphasis(more like 0) on PEDs testing. Nevada stat athletic commission didn't start testing for anabolic steroids until the early 2000s(let the commission do it's Job! Yeah, right) Big Jones fan but that needed to be mentioned. GGG struggled big time against pretty good but not special in anyway Jacobs. A prime 1994 Jones is bigger and better than Jacobs in every single way. And GGG had trouble with(even though he deserved a W) against Canelo, who although a superstar is nowhere near Jones as evidenced by how much worse he did against Cotto than Pacquiao or Mayweather despite being 10 years younger and 15lbs heavier than an old Miguel who had taken more punishment in his career than a red headed stepchild. Now keep in mind Jones is in the same league as Mayweather and Pac(top 30 ATG territory) but he's a natural 168lb fighter while Canelo is an overstuffed JMW who is a few levels below those guys and whos success has far more to do with his promoters and his superstar looks than his boxing ability Canelo and Jacobs are a good and a very good win. Hopkins and Toney(12 rounds to 0) are a very good possibly great win and one of the greatest wins of all time.
He has one of the worst chins in the business, yet he got hit by worse boxers than GGG. GGG, who's also an elite fighter, would be able to land some shots. Now do the math.
It will be a tough fight for GGG. But I do think Roy will play it safe to an uneventful decision win. The threat is just too great for Roy to stick in the pocket too long.
How many times did Roy get clipped flush in his prime? It's not that GG isn't great, it's that he has a 70" reach, and he'd have had to have weathered Roy's great unorthadox offense in order to have landed shots of his own. That's the issue. The evidence is there to predict that Roy could have jumped in and tagged him before making his retreat based on his incredible athleticism. Look at Dino's gifs that he posted of Canelo landing easily with combinations to the head. Go and watch the Brook fight. Brook was a WW with ha 69" reach, and he tagged GG with ease. For all of his great attributes, he is easy to hit. And Roy would have found him very easy to hit. This is Roy at 30 years old up at LHW: https://imgur.com/gallery/dkADuyL
GG has a 70" reach, he isn't particularly fast, and he's easy to hit. This is how fast Roy was: https://imgur.com/gallery/dkADuyL Now you go and do the math.
So, you are saying that a current elite athlete and the P4P#1 would within 12 rounds not be able to land a single punch against prime RJJ?
It's a boxing match. But there's a difference between landing shots and landing flush on the perfect point, at the perfect time.
GGG is not an old Soviet train. He is an intelligent fighter and can fight very well defensively when he needs to. This is assuming a GGG who is hanging his chin out there because he is facing a fighter 2-3 levels below him, adopts that same approach against an absolute elite athlete like RJJ. No one in this thread can be that certain. GGG in this era is absolutely heads and shoulders above everyone else. He has bladdering power. Just putting it out there that RJJ could be clipped by GGG.
So what if he did? He's not going to land enough punches to win and GGG doesn't really have 1 punch KO power. I'd argue that RJJ at 160 hit as hard or harder than GGG does at 160.
