Jones couldnt hurt Tyson and Tyson would know that he has a chance up until the final bell so he wouldnt quit. Id favor him to catch Jones along the ropes (where Jones could seek refuge even in his prime) and catch him.
if tyson won this, it'd have to be early. if the fight went past 3 rds, this would be all jones. tyson didn't train like he should of at this point. danny sheridan listed jones as a 2 to 1 favorite over tyson right after jones' win over ruiz.
There is no chance that this fight goes past 5 rounds with Jones and his defensive leaning on the ropes. In fact, it would be miraculous if it goes to the 5th.
The Tyson that lost to Williams would have destroyed Jones his Chin is abysmal Williams took some huge shots those first 2 rounds Jones would have been out on a stretcher.
Tyson wouldn't let himself lose to a Super MW. His tarnished image would then be totally gone. Tyson spinksifizes Jones with a 1 rd K.O.
Tyson is a stylistic disaster for Jones, even an old Tyson, he has speed and power, he's going to hit and shake you to your boots. Footnote: The Tyson who fought Ettiene was in his best shape for years and years, pity he took a year out then and didn't fight a couple of months after that
Tyson would have taken Jones seriously, and Jones didnt have the size and physical style to make Tyson quit. I never understood why Finkel matched him against big guys like McBride and Williams towards the end. He should have continued to match Tyson against guys like Etienne, smaller heavies that wouldnt smother and lean on Mike and wear him out. Jones would get knocked out.
McBride beat Tyson by absorbing some of his shots and using his weight to wear Tyson out. He leaned on him and pushed him around and Tyson basically quit. Jones wouldnt be able to do that.
If we are assuming that this was the Jones that fought Ruiz and hadn't lost a fight yet, Jones via wide UD. Let's not confuse the current, shot RJ with the Superman version. Jones still had good punch resistance at that time. He was stunned by a flush right hand from Ruiz but recovered in seconds. Jones would've been way too fast for Tyson. He would've embarrassed Tyson IMO. Tyson had a puncher's chance in the first few rounds but that's it.
