That's right, but even if you look at the fighters that he missed, most of those fights would have happened in the U.S. anyway had they been made. Fights against Benn and Collins would have happened in the U.S. Benn and Collins had fought in the U.S. and that's where the most money was. Apart from DM, he never needed to leave the U.S. to fight. But I think the onus was on DM to go to Roy anyway. Top fighters who were based in The U.S. in the 90's/00's, never needed to travel. Every big fighter who wasn't based there, travelled there for big fights. The only exceptions I can think of, are DM and Joe C.

I totally think DM should have come to America to fight Roy.. I really would have loved to see the fight, but I do not blame Roy one bit for not bending there.

 

Neither do I. He was the best fighter in the world, and the unified champ. Why should he have had to have gone to Germany? The onus was on DM.

 

Had a legendary fighter moved up into my weight, and my belt was "wrongfully" stripped, and I saw that legendary fighter collecting that belt and all the other belts, with global recognition.... You can bet I would have fought on the double header for millions, to set up the super fight...

DM had nothing to lose, he could have fought Roy in America, and winning would have been one of the best victories of all time, made him millions and launched him into the ATG category. Not all dare to be great, though most do when large sums of money are offered.

 

I agree entirely. Everybody loves to mention how DM was really the champ, and how he was unfairly stripped etc. But like you say, when he had the chance to get them back and earn $5M, he turned down the opportunity, to fight B-C class opposition for $1-1.5M instead. That's what happened according to Roy and Murad, and I believe them both. DM's resume speaks volumes. It tells me exactly what his intentions were.

 

I also honestly believe Roy thought he could beat DM comfortably. I think he would have too. I also think Roy knew more than likely he wouldn't stop him, so he was going to need a fair shake.

 

There's no way Roy would have stopped him in my opinion, unless it was due to a cut.

Jones Jr Clearly won the fight and it was a blatant robbery, it was even proven as corruption later on yet the Olympic committee still would not give Jones Jr his gold medal.

Can you imagine if they had done that to Ali or Leonard at the Olympics? It's the equivalent of finding Ben Johnson doping in 88 not disqualifying him for cheating, screwing over Carl Lewis and keeping Johnson Olympic champion. Shocking.
