A faded Jones beat Tarver on his best day. Why is this even being discussed?

You have to love Michael Nunn fans. You think Jones ducked — or had any obligation to fight — an old man who'd lost three consecutive title fights?

That's hilarious. Nunn's most recent win in a title fight was way back in 1993 against Merqui Sosa.

But yeah, I'm sure Roy ducked Sosa-killer Nunn in 2002.

How did you have it a draw?

Rounds 3-6 were clearly all Jones.

Roy was happy to fight even older McCallum who had only 2 fights previously been beaten by Tiozzo.

Nunn had won an eliminator and was mandatory.

Jones chose to fight people like the smaller O Grant and R Frazier instead

Any fighter that relies so heavily on reflexes like Jones did/does isn't going to decline gradually. Often times it's a sudden or sharp decline like what we saw with him coming down from HW at 35 years old. Same thing happened with Chris Byrd recently except he was even older.

That being said, Jones beats to an easy UD.

If Jones was able to squeak a win by him being drained what does a prime one do to him ? **** flashes of the old Jones still gave him problems in their 3rd fight and this was after he Koed Jones ..

It's actually kinda sad to rewatch that round knowing what's been unfolding since.....

On a side note, it's funny how some of these European fans try to downplay America's success in boxing. Sure seems like a live inferiority complex in action.

Lets just call it as it is, in the world of boxing, the US has for the most part, consistently put forth more overall talent than all of Europe combined. It's a fact, get use to it !

    :patschHere we go again.
Tarver gets his credit for taking Roy out in two and ending his career but in the rubber match you saw what Tarver was made of and he was exposed in my eyes. Stewart said that he knew Tarver would fail against Hopkins cos of how he looked in the later rounds against Jones.

Eric Harding gave Jones some trouble in the early rounds of their fight, before he quit like a *****.

He could have won but what’s past is past ..And the Europeans can try to downplay our success all they want but at the end of the day our stars are loved and respected on both continents ,can the same be said for their stars ?

Dunno. Either note error or I just saw it that way. Maybe I should rewatch t :p Truth be told: The only fight in that trilogy I have watched more than twice is the second one.. Only saw the first one once.

Always when I see someone talk about the match, it is always only about how Jones sucked. But Iam glad you are different :smooch Interesting with the Stewart comment. Never heard that one. Tarver himself was weight drained for that match (to use that "excuse") Now he wants a rematch, but I think Hopkins beats him easily again. Like Dawson did twice.

The Roy of about 1998 to 2000 would have beaten a prime Antonio Tarver. Remember that the other side of prime, late 2003 version of Roy was still good enough to beat Tarver on points :good
