From October 1996 . Roy was 27 years old and 32-0 when he took on Brannon who was 30 years old and 16-0. Brannon was a tough man and took it to Roy right from the start. Unfortunately for Brannon he was facing a shooting star that was near the top of its arc. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=r6d0WOk-QuU&feature=related
This is the same fight where Roy stepped back during a blistering combo, looked over at the ref and said "You want more of this?" The ref said "Keep fighting" and Roy mercifully put an end to Bryant Brannon on the next combination. It was the sort of moment where you could see that if Roy really wanted to be aggressive and really wanted to go all out, he could stop anybody with ease.
That effortless version of Roy is the one I can see going head to head against any fighter in history... and winning.
I think that's about as close to a physical peak RJJ as you can get. Just ungodly raw talent. This is the fight where he threw like 6 left hooks within a second or so. Wow.
I still think Johnson would have given him a good fight.... Jones is very impressive in the brannon fight, but brannon was nothing exceptional... i would have loved to see that roy vs the johnson that beat him, would have been a bad ass fight!
Brannon is an interesting boxer , apparently he served time in jail and after release became a pro-boxer at age 25 . He handed Eric Lucas his first loss in a 12 round fight , Brannon was 14-0 , Lucas was 17-0-2. He did make Jones work for the KO . Amazing that Brannon was able to get up from being knocked down twice , his recuperative power was impressive.
