Monzon does his usual thing, breaks him down and either wins by late round stoppage or clear UD, like 8-4
monzón would ko jones. escopeta at middle would beat hagler, hopkins,jones,hearns,leonard... just robinson probably would beat him 2/3 fights
We all tend to overrate past fighters. Monzon was great for sure... But a prime Roy Jones would destroy him. Ha would make him look bad, very bad. No disrespect for Monzon. I think Hagler could have maybe beaten Jones on a good day.
MW Jones was not the fighter that Jones would become at SMW and LHW. He didn't have the experience. I'd back Monzon to drop most of the early rounds, before taking control of this fight late and grinding Jones down to take a deserved points win.
I have great respect for both. But, RJJ at middleweight was a devastating puncher and he would catch the slow plodding Monzon early by 4th round KO.
Jones has the advantage in every department except chin and experience, but maybe that's all Monzon needs to win.
The likes of Briscoe and Valdez hit harder than Jones at 160 and neither troubled Monzon with their power that much [bar the knockdown in the 2nd Valdez fight]. No way Jones knocks Monzon out at all, let alone the 4th round. - Monzon may drop some early rounds, struggling with Jones' hand speed and awkward angles, before he eventually find's his rhythm and grinds Jones down to a late stoppage or 8-4 type UD [10-5 if it's over 15].
Monzon, too strong, he'd eventually find jones weak spot and do his usual work. Wear you down and knock you out
Peak Monzon UD or late KO. Jones wasn't at his best at this weight, Monzon was a big guy with good boxing skill and big big power. And that probably ain't the best matchup for any version of Jones.
