Dawson at this stage is as fast as Roy right now. Dawson right now would murder Roy Jones. Lets say Dawson fought Lacy instead of Jones, Dawson would beat the hell out of Lacy very badly and Dawson wouldn't be staying on the ropes to do that.

Let's review the times Roy Jones was "smashed"

Antonio Tarver KO2: Roy looks stronger and fresher than in the first fight as he takes the first round and steam rolls into the 2nd. Then, Tarver lands the luckiest punch in boxing history...with his eyes closed.

Glen Johnson: Coming back only 5 months after his 1st real loss, Jones is gunshy and simply can't take a solid punch. Having, not given the damage done by the Tarver knockout time to heal, he's caught by an overhand right that the old Roy would have seen coming before Johnson even moved his arm.

Tarver III: Roy in gunshy, but shows flashes of brilliance (round 5), but simply doesn't want to take the risk against the first guy to knock him out. He fights overly defensive, like in the Johnson fight and nearly gets knocked out in the late rounds. Survives for UD.

Calzaghe: Roy has Joe down halfway through the 1st round and hurt. Old Roy finishes the stunned Welshman with a wicked flurry (a la Brian Brannon.) And "Super Joe" is out. Instead, Roy lays off and decides to box him. He's too serious and "professional" going out of the style that made him. He still makes it an interesting fight for 6 rounds until Roy get cut for the 1st time.

DAWSON: We've seen a shot Tarver give him a hard time the 2nd time around, which given the age and talent difference, shouldn't have been the case. Chad has a suspect chin and, let's face it... he grew up trying to be Roy Jones Jr. Dawson has impressive wins, but he's never fought anyone like Roy. Think Hopkins vs Pavlik.

This would actually be an interesting fight! Much more than the wrestling, ball kicking fight Chad would get from B-Hop. Dawson is too green for this kind of fight. His promoters think he's ready, but after a sketchy win against Glen Johnson and an underwhelming performance against Antonio Tarver the 2nd time around, it's obvious he needs to look good in the Johnson rematch.

IF he gets past Johnson convincingly (not a given, but a probability) he will fight Bernard Hopkins for Light Heavyweight Supremacy and a good position on the top 5 of the pound 4 pound list. If he struggles with Johnson and barely wins, He'll probably opt to fight Roy thinking it will be easier (since so many feel Hopkins is superior to Jones these days).

Jones Vs Dawson: Action packed fight where Roy and Chad match speed. A dangerous fight for Roy, but he has a very good chance of catching Dawson with a slick counter shot that puts him out. If it went the distance I think it would be a split decision and a coin flip as to who would win.

Hopkins vs Dawson: We all know Benard's style. He doesn't take chances, he grapples like a son of *****, and he out thinks you. Hopkins has never been an exciting fighter, but he brings it. I could see him setting a game plan for a 12 round decision victory.

If you think Roy would get killed? Go back and watch Dawson fights.. the guy trashed young fighters and washed up bums. Roy aint washed up by a long shot.

If Roy isnt washed up. Name his last victory over a top 5 light heavyweight.

Andre Dirrell knocked out Hanshaw in 5 rounds. Roy went to a decision against him in a tough fight.

Dawson would beat Roy Jones by a clear unanimous decision, he has combos that negate activity, that's what Tarver was able to do against Roy Jones Jr in their fights, along with size.

Dawson will stop Roy , but Roy knows it and this is why this fight will never happen. Did Roy fight Jackson ? McClellan ? Benn ? Eubank ? Collins ? Michalczewski ? Tiozzo ? Liles ? Nunn ? Steve Little ? do you know why ? I know. if some of these fights happened he would have a shorter career and a less impressive legacy. and yes , i believe he would have beaten Little , but it still was a risky fight for him.
