The Ring magazine was holding up for Jones year after year, but after he retired they admitted Jones "Ducked" Michalczewski all along. But ducking fighters was nothing new to RJJ, the USA network tried many times to match him with some of their fighters, but Jones truned them all down. And he only fought on HBO because they let him handpick who he wanted....

Maske fought Hill on 23rd Nov 1996, Jones fought McCallum the day before on 22nd Nov 1996 for the INTERIM WBC title as Fabrice Tiozzo was still WBC champion and was until he relinquished the belt to fight at cruiserweight and only then did Jones Jr become the true WBC champion.

By the time DM beat Hill to unify the WBO, WBA and IBF titles Roy Jones was not even a title holder at light heavy as 3 months prior Jones had lost his WBC title to Montell Griffin.

There was a demand in the US, people wanted to see that fight especially boxing fans that were in-the-know; but people pretty much brushed DM aside because Roy was held in such a high regard at that time.

I dont debate who Roy should/could of fought, all I know is, there were way too many good fighters out there who he didn't fight, yet his record is littered with guys who didn't deserve to be in the ring with him, and when you read things like the post below, it makes you question Roy's willingness to face the best consistently....

There was more demand for him to fight Hopkins and other more recongnizable names ..Dm was perceived as a protected fighter thats why most people brushed him aside ..The consenus was DM had to come here and when he didn't he became an after thought but yet both men pretty fought the same opponents ..

While I don't believe Roy ducked Dariusz M - it has to be said that Roy's "reign" @ 175 is one of the biggest frauds in boxing history. Roy was *never* the Man @ 175.

I believe this is the final nail in the coffin for Roy's 175lb linear title claim...

Ok, the problem is Jones *didn't* fight Hopkins when they were #1 and #2 P4P.

I don't think anyone would have critisized Jones for not fighting DM had he found Bernard instead.

    really?
Jones was never the man at 175?
If I remember correctly, during that time period, 175 was considered a fairly weak division and the general consensus was that DM was the only competition to Jones' status as the man at 175

That is solving all the issues in respect to who was the real Man at LHW.
At the time DM won lineal title Jones Jr was nobody at LHW

That is because DM was the rightful champion over there, the one who Jones never fought
