guys i was watching rounds 1 and 2 and there were flashes of the old roy. in the fight he seemed to be lacking the punch power he used to have. jones used to be stronger in his prime. but when he moved down from heavy his strenght went
Jones had serious power at Middleweight and super middleweight, at light heavy he didn't have the same but it wasn't that bad.
jones had 1 punch knock out power at supermiddle. and at lightheavy he had to sit on his punches more but the effect was just as bad
Jones showed great power in the Calzaghe fight. Beautiful uppercut in, I believe the 6th round that distorted Joe's face. The crowd gasped at that punch shown on replay on the huge T.V. screen. Joe, especially when he's relaxed and well into a fight just has incredible punch resistance and toughness. Joe clearly backed off on Roy late in the fight and let his friend and idol finish the fight on his feet. It's almost comical that some people still think Joe didn't baby Roy from the 10'th round on.
The cut had a massive effect in that fight. I thought the fight was very competitive up until that point and could have gone either way, although the smart money was always on Calzaghe to pull away like he did. The difference in action before and after the cut was massive though. Jones just fell apart mentally and physically.
Oh, brother:tiredatschatsch. Joe beat that ass from the second round on. In the third round, Joe looked like something out of the movie, The Matrix. Roy couldn't land a punch to save his soul. All three ringside judges finally got one right. Joe won every round save the first.
