Roy Jones at heavy was the same size as Eddie Machen and had movement similar to Conn. Could Roy with his speed pull off the upset vs a 1941 Louis or a 1960 Sonny Liston? Or do we see a highlight reel KO of Roy Jones?

You dont think Roys movement and handspeed would make things hard?

Prime Liston failed to find the KO vs Machen. Jones was much quicker than Machen in foot and hand. Liston would struggle greatly to hit Roy solidly. IMO between Jones speed and work rate, he could upset Liston via UD. But, should Liston find that solid punch, Liston by highlight reel KO

Louis with his superior hand speed relative to Liston, would be more likely to be able to time Roy, catch him coming in and land that big punch or combination thereof.

Jones always a "chance".....but Louis & Liston always carry the "game changer" going to 2:59 of the 15th round.

You think Jones sees the last bell or does Liston pull an Albert Westphal on him?

Could he make it to the end vs Louis?

A ten round fight RJ probably makes it with both, obviously fighting smart. 13 & beyond, would be too much for Roy, but it would be uncharted territory for Liston too (Machen went 12 rds)

    Classic Liston quote:
Do you think your performance tonight (Westphal fight) scared Patterson?" a reporter asked Liston. "How long have I been the No. 1 challenger?" Liston asked. "About a year and a half," someone volunteered. "That's how long he's been scared of me," Liston said.
    • Liston vs. Westphal was the opening match of boxing's first-ever closed circuit doubleheader. In the other fight, World Heavyweight Champion Floyd Patterson knocked out Tom McNeeley in Toronto.
    • 500,000 seats were available at 150 theaters and other locations in the United States and Canada.
    • A crowd of 4,000 at Philadelphia's Convention Hall paid $25,000 to see Liston vs. Westphal live.
    • Liston made $75,000, and Westphal got $12,000.
    • Liston was a 10-1 favorite.
    • The fight was delayed because the gloves provided for Liston were too small for his hands.
    • Liston put Westphal down for the count with a right to the jaw. It was the first time Westphal was ever floored.

I think vs. Liston the ref plays a role. If the ref is on Jones' side like in the Ruiz fight, as in not allowing any holding and rough housing, Jones might squeeze out a decision over 10. But the longer it get's the more likely it get's that Liston lands something significant.

With Louis I don't think it matters. Joe will get to him at some point.

I think that they would both murder him to be honest.

He would probably know better than to take the fights.

I'd pick Jimmy Ellis to beat Jones at heavyweight!

I'd pick Michaelchewski to beat him at lhw. However, that's not really the question, is it?

Liston and Ellis had 2 differing styles. Even if Ellis did beat Jones it wouldnt follow that Liston would. Liston would do better to keep Jones on the run and shoot for a decision by being the effective aggressor and if the opportunity for the KO comes, take it as opposed to just chasing the KO

I think Liston could 1 punch KO Jones, thats why I referenced the Westphal fight, but I also think Jones has a reasonable chance of evading that kind of punch.

Louis KO's Roy inside 4 rounds.

Liston on the other hand I believe Roy likely could have success against, there was a huge difference in speed however all it takes is a strong jab from Liston and Roy would be on shaky legs.
