Ive always wondered about this matchup at lightheavyweight. spinks in my opinion is the greatest light-heavyweight of all time and what cant be said about roy jones. I would have spinks winning a decision
    any thoughts?

*I think ur right on with Spinx being the greatest lightheavy of all time.. i thought Dawson would have something to say about it, but lacks the killer intinct to be an all time great...
*Roy Jones.. the Jones not on steroids, stands no chance... if Jones is getting Ko'ed by the Glen Johnsons and Tarvers... then he really gets hammered by Spinx, IMO.

*A better match-up would be a prime BOB Foster vs Spinx... damn!

Yeah I agree the top 2 light heavyweights of all time I still go for a spinks win against foster though. his chin was solid at lightheavyweight and even took holmes best shots and cooneys.

*Yup... but Bob Foster could throw a right... still, I think Spinx finds a way.

Jones is borderline top 15 or thereabouts among all time Lt. Heavies. Tremendously overrated at that weight, in my opinion. Spinks by KO in the 8th.

yes I agree his so famous jinx right hand would have landed an jones chin wasnt fantastic as tarver and johnson proved. spinks winning by ko also very likely in the late rounds.

Michael had superb skills, and one punch power in both hands. He knocked out competent heavyweights Tangstad and Cooney. Roy didn't have a heavyweight chin. RJJ is 5'11" tall, giving Michael a four inch height advantage, along with two inches of reach.

A single momentary lapse was arguably more fatal when engaging with the Jinx than any other champion of his era. He destroyed Marvin Johnson with a single hook in mid ring. Vonzell Johnson came out of a clinch with his hands down in mid ring, and got his career ended with a solitary right cross. Mustafa Wassaja got caught against the ropes and found himself being multiple hooked into bobble headed senselessness. Michael himself had his back on the ropes when he nearly rocketed Jerry Celestine's head into the Van Allen Belt with a shotgun blast right uppercut. Of course he also had Eddie Futch, as if he wasn't already clever and skilled enough to scheme for himself.

It doesn't matter if Roy sweeps the first seven rounds (as unlikely as that is with the way Michael could go to the body). At some point, he'd be open, Michael would drop a bomb, and that would be it. Even Bob Foster wasn't that deadly at 175. (At LHW, only a peak Qawi and super prepared Eddie Davis got to the final bell without hitting the deck after Michael got his professional career in gear, and Eddie had the benefit of not having to go the championship distance.)

i hate this fight for roy: always have always will. spinks, foster and charles are the only light heavies i'd put money on against roy.

spinks and foster both win by KO, spinks' win is just a little uglier

the speed difference would make this fight a one-sided affair. jones ud. foster would have a better chance vs jones imo but i still like roy. foster's resume at 175 is weaker than jones'.

KO Spinks. It's all been said in this thread already.

I'm leaning towards Spinks. 65/35 chance for Spinks. Spinks has the greatest chance of beating Jones at light Heavy.

Jones' head is at the perfect height to act like a golf ball on a tee for the Jinx to send into orbit.
