Tyson had very little left any time after the turn of the century - and that very little was beaten out of him by Lewis in 2002 in any case. By 2003 he had nothing at all, be it physically or mentally. Granted, Jones hit the bricks badly after 2003, but going back to 175 clearly had a lot to do with that. Earlier in the year he'd looked good weighing 193 lb against Ruiz, and even with the weight issues he still ground out a deserved points win against Tarver in November that year. This would have been a sad spectacle and I could imagine Tyson quitting on his stool or being pulled out by his corner after 8 or 9 rounds, having barely laid a glove on Jones.
This. In 2003 Tyson was slow as molasses and injury prone, so he would’ve most likely injured himself trying to land on Roy Jones at this point in his career. Tyson would’ve been a much easier fight for Roy in 2003 than Tarver was.
Tyson’s style is all wrong for Roy.He hits harder and is more aggressive than Ruiz and Roy got tagged a few times in that fight.Bottom line is Jones just has no chin and that is why he would not do well at heavyweight.
Roy lost most of his speed when he moved back down to light heavyweight. He no longer had the speed to avoid punches.
