Roy Jones vs. Muhammad Ali at Heavyweight.

I'll go against the grain and say Roy would probably take it...Roy Jones in his prime can potentially beat anyone from middleweight to heavyweight. His hand speed, quickness and reaction time is just a set of attributes that no other boxer before him possessed. Even the great Ali would have trouble with it.

 

Holyfield? Hmmm....good fighter....beat some good names....some suspect of using steroids, which is true means he should be disgarded....(I don't know if it's true or not)....Why do you think Holy was the best?

 

I can only assume this is a bunch of alts bad mouthing ali.

Noone can truly believe holyfield is a better heavyweight than ali, hell moorer boxed rings round prime holyfield. Evander was a warrior and an A level fighter but he aint up there with Ali.

Ali, too big, fast, strong and talented for Jones who was naturally much smaller.

Jones has no chance against a HW like Ali.

That solid right that Ruiz hit Jones with in the first round, would have ended the fight right there, had Ali been the one throwing the right.

Ruiz was able to hit Jones, who wasn't as fast and had less power than Ali.. Had Jones stunned for a second in the first round, and that was Ruiz... This is Muhammad Ali we are talking about here... One of the greatest fighters ever with a huge size advantage..

 

Holyfield has every advantage over Ali in his prime except maybe handspeed. Ali might land more punches in the beginning but over 12 rounds eventually there would be trading and I do not believe Ali could go 12 rounds with Holyfield in his prime. Who could? Bowe? Bowe was huge.

It's not about what other people believe. It's about what I believe after watching the tapes. Ali has no advantage over Holyfield except speed, and thats not going to be enough to win over 12 rounds.

You think otherwise? Watch the tapes and lets compared based on what you see on tape and based on actual fight history. What advantage does Ali have?

 

Ali' natural prime weight is about 214lbs........jones was about 200 was he not at heavyweight? with tons of muscle packed on....Ali would maul Jones, ko within four rounds, Jones would pull back and Ali's long, fast punches would crack that suspect chin....

 

Ali brutally humiliates him.

Moorer was actually a very good fighter. Saying that like Moorer isn't an ATG himself is ridiculous. Anybody would have been outboxed or knocked out by Moorer at that time. Ali would have had trouble with a prime Moorer, because Moorer has Foreman like power with better boxing ability. (Moorer had a 100% knock out rate at LHW)

And no Moorer is the last person Jones would want to fight. I'd rather see him fight Ali. I say that because Moorer is a southpaw which always gives Jones trouble. Also Moorer is a harder punching HW than Ali, and on the level of Foreman in terms of power. Jones wouldn't last 5 rounds with Moorer because he won't be able to take the punches and also Moorer was a very skillful boxer with a great jab and hook. I wouldn't pick Jones over a prime Holyfield because Holyfield's chin and stamina were beyond Jones, and Holyfield had good speed. I would pick Jones over Tyson, and I think Jones has a good chance at beating Ali because Ali would feel Jones punches just as Jones would feel Ali's. I'm not saying Jones would be guaranteed to win but you guys are talking about a prime Jones, the Jones that nobody was able to win a round against or land a punch against, and Ali is supposed to be the first guy to knock him out?

I'm not basing it on the Ruiz fight, I'm saying a 28 year old Jones and a 28 year old Ali, who wins? The only shot Ali has at winning is landing a knock out punch on the chin. That is the only way Ali could win, and nobody at that point in time had been able to catch Roy Jones. The Roy Jones who fought Ruiz was in decline so if we compare that Roy Jones to Ali of the same age, who would win? Watch the tapes.

 

Jones would probably get KOed by the first lead right hand Ali threw. Jones has one of the most fragile Glass Jaws in the sport.
