Years later he said he knew subconsciously that he couldn't have beat Jones at that stage. But wanted the money + respect of fighting the best, going out swinging punches.

He was shot to pieces after the McClellan fight and Jones was peaking spectacularly.

    Agree with this.

Benn of the Mclellan night would have put up a good fight against Jones but would have got hurt any later than that.

Thanks to everyone for replying, this fight would of been great but it seems that boxing politics got in the way. Has anyone here got any links to Benn interviews talking about Roy?

Jones offered Nunn 125,000 which is no where near 7 figures. I have seen that Brannon pre fight talk as well and I cant see how the other champions would of turned down that kind of money.

If Jones had really offered them fights then the above quote makes no sense.

This isnt true, Benn was in trouble with the taxman and most of his purse for the McClellan fight went to the IRS.

Have you got a link for this? I have never heard anything about any of this. I cant see Collins asking for 7 million his biggest purse was most probably around 700K

Can you really imagine Don KIng caring about something like that? You should read his comments about McClellan when McClellan was in hospital.

    I never read those comments.

The only comments I remember after the fight was the G Man's family demanding that Benn pay for his medical bills. :-(

Benn never wanted Jones. Benn talking **** now shows me that he was always scared of a prime Jones... If Benn beat McClellan, why wasn't that fight easily made when Roy beat Toney?

co-sign I saw the same interview there is even tape floating around stating that Benn would get calls from Jones to try to make the match happen ..Anyon who calls Jones a ducker or knocks him is clearly a Larry Merchant gay ass groupie who only reports half the story !

Benn was a ***** who wanted no parts of Jones in his prime pusshead. No, Benn wouldn't have fought a heavy. Benn could only beat sluggers...
