Toney has a granite chin, but not Bhop. He was hurt a number of times in his first fight with Mercado and dropped twice, he was also stunned against Taylor in their first fight.

Imagine if RJJ came through Benn, Eubank, Collins, Calzaghe on top of Toney, Hopkins unscathed and retired undefeated. He would undoubtedly be rated top 10 ATG by most.

He should of rematched Hopkins and Toney to prove that it wasnt just a fluke the first time round, like a lot of the old school fighters used to do, Robinson vs Lamotta springs to mind

If his jaw was always as bad as you say it is, he would have been knocked out before he was 34. And Ruiz would have knocked him out in the first round.

Punch resistance declines just like any other attribute of a fighter as he gets older, this is common sense.

Jones has never been in any wars so this rule shouldnt apply to him. Also Holmes, Ali, Foreman and Toney spring to mind to disprove the above rule.

I think we're losing the point here people.

This was supposed to be peak for peak and if that is the case, then it would have to be the Jones from his Toney fight vs the Benn from his Barkley fight.

Both had pro's and cons. Jones ran WAY too much and was scared of being punched. Benn was slack and had dodgy balance causing him to drop more than he should, Dewitt fight being a good example.

However, even Vinny 'Mr Miss a punch' Panzienza had Jones on the ropes and..........LANDED. Imagine what would happen if that was Nigel Benn landing and not straw weight Pansy-enza.

Peak for Peak I wouldn't bet on either. Jones could only run for the hills to get the win, waiting for Benn to tire before unloading fast combo's.

Benn would have to hunt Jones down to get the win only Nigel wouldn't just be stalking ala Toney style, he would be throwing AND landing.
Jones never fought a puncher like Benn at middle....NEVER.

Peak for peak = TOSS UP.

ps. Benn scores MAJOR points over Jones anyway for winning not one, but 2 world titles outside his own country. Jones didn't even compete abroad. I don't care what the reasons were either so don't bother. Fact remains Jones was a home country fighter and for that, he loses credibility.

theres no doubt about it, if jones had the balls to fight benn, mccllelan or DM, his disgraceful glass mandable would have been smashed to smitherines at a much earlier date. instead he took his frustrations out on a long line of sanatation workers and civil servants, pulling the wool over america's gullable eyes :deal

Do you think it is possible the sudden weight drop at an older age could have declined his punch resistance? And you are talking about fighters with complete Iron jaws, which I obviously don't think Roy had, but I do believe it was average before he dropped back down from heavyweight.

Also, I think even fighters with Iron jaws punch resistance can go down as they get older as well, I think Vitali and Toney are slipping a bit compared to where they were. And remember the theory, the last thing to go is a fighters punch? If this has any truth to it, punch resistance would go before the punch. Which Roy has lost his punch as well at this point.

As well as mentioning those fighters with Iron chins, many of them hold textbook boxing technique.. Roy's style was simply not one that would last long after he starts to become an older fighter. It was built around godly reflexes, without too many fundamentals.

If you watch prime Roy videos, you can see that he was on the brink of getting caught with huge punches many times... But was just fast enough to avoid the punch or at least make it a glancing blow.

All of them and maybe DM and he would have been the greatest fighter ever, and we all know he was well capable of destroying them all.

He couldn't of got through Eubank unscathed!

He wouldn't of been the same after a fight like that.

Because Nigel Benn, like Steve Collins, was officially offered a career high payday and turned it down. I love Benn, Eubank and all these guys but RJJ would have beat the living **** out of them and made them look like cans, literally.

To any newbie here that doesn't know about this or thinks that Benn terrified RJJ, download Roy Jones vs Brannon and watch the damn interview IN the ring with Jones and you can hear them asking that question. Right there HBO did confirm that these guys were ALL offered career high paydays to make the fight and all turned it down. The reason why Collins was offered instead of Eubank is because he beat Eubank at the time.
