Hell no. Lewis was simply too big and too good. He would have caught Jones with something and it would have hurt him badly or dropped him after that it would have been all over.
Lots of people do things against the rules. Sorry Zakman, but you're an extremist when it comes to Ruiz. His style was often excessive in holding. But fighters knew that coming in, and prepared for it and lost often. It is what it is. And he was still GOOD at it.
Using cheating, corruption, illegal tactics, and outright fakery.:yep How ANY boxing fan could regard this as being the least bit legitimate is beyond me! Sad, really.:verysad
The fight had curiousity value , and that was about all... Seeing Roy beat a large man in the large mans natural division.. It was sadistic... Like everyne wanting to see Tyson v any old nobody , just because it was Mike and with Mike ... anythin can and usually did happen..
He KOed Quendo. And, he might of cheated but it's not his fault no one stopped him. And those low blows. He took acting class, he should of won the ****ing title for such greatness of acting skills.
As a true boxing fan I try to see as many fights as I can. Nothing beats seeing the fight for yourself and forming your own opinion instead of relying on someone eles' opinion of what happened which could be tainted by bias.
Oh, I forgot before even making the thread that our buddy Zak was going to come in here just for seeing the name 'Ruiz' and shred the ****er to pieces.:yep I love your dedication man!!
Okay, sure, I've agreed that Ruiz's holding of the title for so long was a product of corruption, but he was still a ranked HW and we're talking about Jones' performance. What did you think of his performance overall?
I remember watching this fight live(it happened on my 20th birthday), and I thought Roy did a hell of a job. I watched it again last night, and he looked better than I remembered. Roy's jab was on point, and he was killing Ruiz with the straight right and lead left hook. Roy held when he need to, and showed excellent footwork and ring generalship. He kept that fight in the middle of the ring a good portion of the time.
I think Roy's punching is some of the most crisp technique I have ever seen at times. The jab alone if he were to have been a more tactical fighter would have been a massacring weapon if used in consistent form like most boxer puncher's. But I like watching him the way he was, very entertaining.
One of the best shots I've ever seen landed, brutal. It likely would have dropped most Cruiserweight's also, too bad he didn't stay around at the Cruiser level. Indeed, Roy had some instances in certain fights where he would play 'runner', but he wasn't as consistent a runner as Floyd is at any point in his career. There is a difference between effective movement and outboxing and outright running. Now, Floyd is not even really a bad runner, he just runs at times, a horrible runner is Cory Spinks. I laugh everytime the Floyd boys try to make out like Floyd can surpass Roy.:yep
