How would MW Jones do against Sumbu Kalambay, Steve Collins, Michael Nunn, Michael Watson, Gerald McClellan, Chris Eubanks, Dariusz Michalczewski, Frankie Liles, and Donald Curry? All in their primes, of course.
He beats them all but Eubank...And I will be in the minority on that one as well. I have always had Eubank over RJJ in my against the grain picks...probably ranks up there with my Laguna over Duran upset.
I cant see Jones losing to any of those guys. Maybe Mclellan has the power to catch him and time him coming in but thats the only way any of them beat Jones at MW. He was just too fast and too good and no not even Eubank has a chance, and I wouldnt even put Eubank in the top three of that list to beat Jones Jr.
Prime Nunn would beat RJJ. It's a crying shame that Roy didn't get to fight Dariuz, Benn, Eubank, Collins etc.
In one off fights, I'd favour Jones over all of them If he fought the majority of them over a career, he'd pick up losses. McClellan under the right guidance and management, has a good chance. Michael Nunn would be a bad stylistic match up for Jones, likewise Frankie Liles Dariusz was extremely tough, had a great jab and 1-2, but I think he's too methodical to beat Jones. Roy is too unorthodox and quick for him, Jones should have just bitten the bullet, made the concessions and got the Dariusz fight, he would have beaten him Collins would put up a tough fight, but ultimately isn't good enough at anything to beat Jones Chris Eubank (not Eubanks) -Would have been very negative, and awkward for Jones. He might even land a few good shots if he times Jones coming in. But speed kills, and Jones was lightning, he does the better work and wins a decision over Eubank in an awkward fight Can't believe you left out a prime MW Mike McCallum, he would have had as good a chance as any of these against Jones. The fight they had at LHW means nothing, as Mike was way over the hill by that point
Nunn is the only 1 with a shot here, Jones can beat him but it's a really interesting fight. Liles would be competitive early before Jones turns up the heat on him
Kalambay and Nunn would have a shot IMO while McClellan would only have a punchers chance,Liles could pose him some problems like he did in the amateurs but i think Roy would still edge him, the others get soundly beat.
LMAO @ the thought of Eubank beating Jones. Eubank wouldn't win a round against Jones. The only one on that list with a chance is prime Nunn. Curry? Curry was a welterweight! Jones would have obliterated Curry within 4 at 160. And DM was a light heavy.
In fantasy fights I think he'd be a favourite over them all in my opinion. Nunn and Sumbu have the best chance and Gerald could end it at any point but i'd favour Jones above each. In a full mw career one would likely score and upset.
