I bet you would if it was Jones and Robinson didn't have many rematches Shouldn't be credited for beating a ranked guy multiple times? Get out of here! Imagine if Jones beat Toney 3 separate times at relevant points in time. You are just having a laff.
There's no footage of Robinson when he was considered to be at his best as a Welterweight. No he didn't, other than maybe when he was massively outweighed against LaMotta, at a stretch against Turpin and Maxim (outweighed again). Robinson was just still a very good boxer when past it, rather than turning to rubbish in a short period like Jones, becuase Robinson had more in his aresenal than pure talent. Plus he had less than half as many fights.
Apologies - I missed your earlier post. On Olsen... ...I'm not sure Bobo was ranked during 1950. Yes, there were the omissions of Graziano and Dellicurti. I'd also add Maxie Shapiro, Tony Motisi, Jimmy McDaniels and George Costner. I also suspect Norman Rubio and Joe Curcio were ranked, at the time of them meeting SRR, but an Historian, with the source literature, would need to corroborate these names. A note on Robinson/Basora... ...Their first meeting was a Draw and I am not sure Basora was ranked by the time of their second session. I am also not convinced that Coji's naming of Pete Lello and Ralph Zannelli is valid, i.e. I question whether either of them were actually ranked at the time they fought Robinson. Again - one for the Historians, perhaps.
Rather than fighting the same guys over and over I would prefer Robinson fight Lloyd Marshall Charley Burley Holman Williams etc.
Rocky Graziano was just outside the top 10 when he fought Robinson. Ring Magazine had him number 11 (including the champion for the year prior).
I don't know. Beating and losing to the same opponent, multiple times, seemed to work for the legacies of "Lloyd Marshall, Charley Burley Holman Williams etc."
His superiority becomes more conclusive. If Robinson only had had one win over LaMotta, they would be 1-1. That's a big difference from Ray being 5-1 against Jake.
I thought Lloyd Marshall's wins over Jake LaMotta, Joey Maxim and Freddie Mills were a big part of his legacy not winning and losing against the same guys over and over again.
Because he was campaigning extensively as a middleweight and had numerous fights against middleweights long before he became middleweight champion.
Yes, for parts of the fights there is. His third against Angott and the one against Fusari for example.
