Roy Jones was exceptional but did not take on all styles

He's known for his wins over Toney and Hopkins. The performance over Toney was probably the top performance of the 1990s.

But Hopkins was a relatively unatheltic negative boxer. And Toney was a relatively unatheltic boxer-puncher. I think Jones has shown that just sitting back and trying to pick him off or spoil just wouldn't cut it against him.

But when did he ever fight a mean, rough rider? An excellent brawling, pressure fighter? Where is that style of fighter on his resume?

Like a Nigel Benn, McClellan, Hagler, Lamotta or Golovkin?

That's why he's not the best ever like some say he was. He never did it against a great pressure fighter. A rough and rugged, high workrate brawler.

He's not the best ever because he got caught with PEDS. Do we really know how good Roy Jones is?! No we don't it's impossible since we don't know for how long he had been cheating

Not at 28 he wasn't. And James Toney was one of the best High School Qbs in Michigan. Had a scholarship offer to play running back at MICHIGAN. He went to boxing full time after beating up Dion Sanders at an All-America game.

    Pressure fighters:

    Jorge Vaca
    Jorge Castro
    Merqui Sosa
    Trinidad

    and of course

    John Ruiz.

This is true. But it was just unfortunate circumstances. Guys like Collins were swept aside to pursue better fights, and fights with Benn and Dariusz were extremely hard to make. It sure would have been interesting to see how Roy would have reacted.

He beat Jorge Castro, Middleweight, 70-3 going into the fight, has a top chin, and ended up beating the likes of Reggie Johnson x 2, John David Jackson etc.
An underrated win because Castro broke his hand relatively early, but it was looking good for RJJ either way.

Just saw that JDJ Ko in another thread, he got very lucky though because he was about to get stopped himself, and waaaay behind on the cards.
If the fight had been in Britain, JDJ would have already won ;)

I pick Roy to KO Benn as Nigel walks in. Benn didn't have the chin to pressure Jones. Now Hagler from the Hearns fight. I just can't see Jones Jr handling that aggression and chin.

I'd have given Benn a 4 round window to get the job done.

I think Roy's speed would have caused Marvin huge trouble.

The thing about Jones was his main asset was his athleticism. He had a pitiful Glass Jaw and also had no Plan B in a fight. When things weren't going his way he didn't really know what to do. His resume has serious holes when compared to the fighters that were available to him and he definitely steered clear of power punchers and for good reason. We all saw why.
