Yes, the draw DIDN'T make sense. It wasn't that close a fight. You would think they could easily get it right.
Why don't you try watching some of the fights. It's regarded as one of the biggest robberies in the history of the sport. Did you just start watching(or rather reading about) boxing yesterday or something? Or are you just like 13 years old?
From where you sit you just cant see what I see. Armstrong was a tireless worker but a little small. He would have been great comp for Benny Leonard. How do you think he would have done with Ray Leonard or Hearns, or Duran?
i saw the fight... yea it appeared sweet pea won to me too... but it still is a draw... you can't change that... there are so many flaws wit sweet pea... kinda like him struggling wit roger mayweather... now u r gonna tell me roger is better that floyd right?
What relevance does that have in terms of his This content is protected status? At all? In any way, shape, or form? Armstrong is easily, irrefutably a top 4 ATG.
Struggling with Roger? He dominated the bout aside from a single knockdown when Roger snuck in a right hand. It wasn't even close. And that was a young Whitaker as well. There have been far more flaws shown with Mayweather than a prime Pea.
OK Rooster, how does the following not make a top 25 ATG? Hell, I'll be impressed if you can make a legitimate case for him being out of the top 5 in fact. Resume: Armstrong beat 16 world champions in an era when there was only one world champion or maybe 2(NYSAC or NBA champs for example). He beat around 30-35 very good(and great) fighters, his resume is not on the level of a guy like Harry Greb or Sam Langford, but it ranks in the neighborhood of guys like Robinson and Charles. Barney Ross Sammy Angott Lou Ambers Midget Wolgast Chalky Wright Benny Bass Fritzie Zivic Ceferino Garcia Lew Jenkins Willy Joyce Tippy Larkin Baby Arizmendi Juan Zurita Mike Belloise Rodolfo Casanova Petey Sarron Above are just the title holders, there are still in the neighborhood of 15-20 other contenders that he beat. Accomplishments: Held 3 titles in 3 of the original 8 weight classes simultaneously (Featherweight, Lightweight, and Welterweight) and if not for the Draw he was given credit for in a robbery against Ceferino Garcia at Middleweight, would’ve held 4 at the same time, that’s half of the title in boxing for a natural Featherweight(he rarely weighed past the Lightweight limit). So, by most accounts(those being the accounts of people capable of scoring a fight) he should’ve held 4, instead of 3. Let’s also not forget that he wasn’t some spastic weight jumper, he earned his due at each individual weight, ranking by most accounts as a top 10 ATG in the 3 weight classes he officially held titles in. He also holds the record for title defenses at Welterweight, with 19, while being consistently outsized. His short but spectacular reign from 1937-40 in which he went 59-1-1 with 50 KO’s, picking up all 3 titles(and what should’ve been a 4th) was perhaps the most dominant 3 years a fighter has ever had. His 1937 year(27-0, 26 KO’s) being the best single year. In-Ring Performance: Considered by most to be the quintessential swarmer, he was(along with Harry Greb) the most indefatigable fighter of all time. He was a destroyer of almost every type of boxer, the best of the bigger fighters/punchers being the only style he did not seem to be able to run through or tire out. His prime/peak was shorter than most, but it could be argued that there was never a better fighter at their best than Henry Armstrong.
Ok no apologizing shall be done here, i say Hearns should be above Duran even though there careers weren't that disimilar (ie rising through weight divisions) in the fights against the elite fighters of there time Hearns cam off with the better results in the big fights. Hearns worst loss was in his prime was agains Marving Hagler where he was tko'd in the 3 round. What needs to be asked is what would have happened had he not broke his hand in the first round. As for Whitaker (who i assume you'll take a biased view too assuming by your name) A defensive guy rated above the defensive master? Pepe who won 229 fights in 14 years? Pep the only boxer in history to win a round without throwing a punch? I could think of a lot of fighters i'd rate above Whitaker in P4P all time greats, i do agree after thinking about it Jack Johnson wouldn't be on my list. I can't put my iew across on Mickey Walker having never seen any footage of him.
Roy Jones doesn't have a case for best ever. He has a case for one of the most talented, but he doesn't have the resume to be considered the best ever. period
