Roy along with HBO have been trying to fool and manipulate the Boxing public his whole career. Roy and HBO said he made history by handpicking and beating John Ruiz. The truth is no he didn't. Lennox Lewis was THE Heavyweight Champion not John Ruiz. It was not even close to the same thing that Fitzsimmons did.

Roy made a career out of fighting no hopers and ducking just about anyone with a pulse and that could punch. After the Tarver and Johnson fights we found out why because Roy has always had a Glass Jaw.

And to my favorite part Roy did not hesitate to showboat and act like a clown in the ring with such great competition as:

    Glen Kelly
    David Telesco
    Richard Hall
    Rick Frazier
    Otis Grant
an old and shot Vinny Paz

but now that Calzaghe gave him some of his own medicine the Glass Jaw Roy fan boys are crying like little girls because their hero was made to look like a complete joke.

And there is that whole Reluctant Roy thing that the media gave him for his handpicking.

out of all the many arguments i've read on here since the fight to discredit calzaghe the most ridiculous has to be the showboating one. if it was anyone else but roy jones ( who didnt seem to have any problem with it anyway ) then i'd maybe sympathise but joe was just giving him a taste of his own . someone in the classic was claiming that its ok to do it to some roadsweeper but not to a legend like roy. horse****.

Seen from his point of view, his posting career on ESB is even worse...

Roy's best prime wins were against a prime Hopkins, a prime Toney and a Prime Tarver. Joe's best wins areagainst a 43 year old Hopkins, an over rated Lacy and a Prime Kessler. Sorry but you cannot compare, maybe with the exception of Kessler.

Although I find this debate pointless as Jones is and always be will be a great fighter. (He should hang them up though!)

I do completely agree with the fact that he never won the Heavyweight Championship! Lennox Lewis was the recongnised Champion and all he did was beat an alphabet soup Champion in John Ruiz.

I have respect for Ruiz even though most people don't but he never was nor has he ever been the Heavyweight Champion of the world.

Jones beat him, there is no doubt about that but he only beat a 10 top heavyweight not the heavyweight champion of the wordl!

Not sure about that. This version of Hopkins you speak of got beat by JT in two fights. Hopkins also has been fighting guys who have no business being at 170 like Winky and DLH and Pavlik. Don't let those wins against undersized guys fool you. He also took advantage of a weight drained Tarver. The fight against Joe showed Hopkins age.

it also showed his tactical genious and nous . he didnt fight DLH at 170 or winky i don't think and lets face it pavlik was alot better thought of before hopkins took him to school. that version of hopkins is at least as good as the early 90's version i think. he didnt look anything special against jones. have you seen the fight ?

I can't help but think there are a few comparisons with Lewis/Tyson in this whole Calzaghe/Jones Jnr thing.

Tyson was at his best during the early part of his career and declined a lot towards the end whereas Lewis just got better with age.
By the time they met it was a whitewash.

The same has happened with Roy & Joe.

Was Tyson's career smoke and mirrors?

    You decide.

Yes, but he was still in his prime. 43 years old is not considered prime, he is at the end of his career.
