Its a valid point to be skeptical of certain elements of Jones and his career. Thats not to under value him though.

The hopkins that just fought Calzaghe and beat Pavlik would have given Roy a much harder fight.

Hopkins is way smarter than he was when he fought Roy.

This has nothing to do with Calzaghe or who is/was Prime or not Prime.

It has to do with the farce that was Roy Jones.

so ? that has no bearing on which version was better . its the old youth v experience thing, and we saw who won between those to when he messed pavlik up.
if you're talking about the dreaded prime thing it goes both ways, if he isn't in his prime now he wasn't then either, how long do you think a fighters prime lasts for ?

Roy never beat a linear, unified, or undisputed Champion in his whole career. They were out there for him to fight but he chose not to. Reluctant Roy did it to himself don't blame me or anyone else for this blame Roy and his handpicking ways for the majority of his career.

Both Jones Jr. & Calzague were good fighters that are wayyyyyy overrated because they never face real opposition at their primes, its a shame they decided to take their biggest names and biggest fights at the end of their carreers, hope people dont forget that they were both talented "cheerypickers".

    You're right, I'm afraid.

Roy is just like any other fighter with clearly fantastic handspeed and decent power, who was impossible to hit flush for the best part of ten years, won titles in four different weight classes and dwindled in his later years.

Rubbish, obviously. That's the blueprint for an overhyped fighter. Also, with fighters like Eubank, Benn and Ray Leonard singing his praises how crap can he be?!?!?!!??

one of the worst threads I've ever read on ESB, and I'm sure I'm gonna get flamed for this; I don't usually dislike Rico's posts lol

My main concerned and frustration with both Jones & Calzague is why if you are blessed with special talent like they do,, why you dont fight the best so you can show that you are the BEST for real. It goes on and on the same can be said with Mayweather. Maybe Boxing its the only sport where you can see all the ducking and you can still clai you are the best. Just think about it its like when Jordan was around he have missed all the games with the Knicks in the palyoffs or he choose not to play against Drexler in the finals or worst he could have said : I will not play againt Kobe in the allstar game, **** Im better than him ,what i have to proof?

I have got to agree with Stonerose and say that the Hopkins that Joe beat is better than the Hopkins that Roy beat.

Obviously neither of those Hopkins are better than the prime Hopkins but i do believe Hopkins increased skill level nowadays and his wealth of experience would be able to out smart the younger and fitter version of B-Hop.
