He isnt, and hes never had real one-punch pop, but at 175 he carries way more power than Calzaghe does at the same weight. It might be his hand injuries, I dont know, but JC never commits at all to a power punch anymore.

Jones is going to be gassing by round 3. Calzaghe is going to make him look like a joke, seriously. It could be embarrassing, Calzaghe may even start showboating. Jones now moves like he's wading through mud.

Agreed! RJJ is all about them legs and they are not there anymore. Most likely RJJ will receive a punishment of biblical proportions. Too bad Calzaghe is retiring. Great fighter with still 1-2 fights in him when he's done with RJJ.

I do think that most are looking at this one very much the same way they did for the Hopkins-Calzaghe bout... Jones' fans ( like Hopkins' fans before) expect to witness the ressurection of the great ex-champ with all his mastery and skills used like once before, long ago, one more time. Happens that you have to look closely at Jones' performances of late and acknowledge that more than fast counter punching alone, workrate and tremendous conditioning are no longer there... RJJ has to take long breaks and be on the receiving end for great part of the boxing round, and that was exactly what made Bernard lose. Of course, Roy should have more speed and power with a one punch but he also has a weaker chin, poor defense and he doesn't use his back legs as much.... Therefore, Joe C with his stamina, workrate and output, his heart and great experience as well, should throw more, connect more and keep Roy under pressure more than not, which results in the judges not seeing enough rounds to score for the challenger. Jones has a puncher's chance, actually like Bernard had from the opening round in his bout against Joe.

    Styles make fights.

Roy got hit by big hitting 175lbs. Joe wasn't a big hitting 168lbs fighter let alone 175lbs. So it won't be a single punch KO. Jones can hurt Calzaghe more than the other way around.

Bika and Hopkins have been Joe's toughest fights, DURABLE spoilers.

Joe's not stupid, he takes his chin, speed, stamina and punch output to beat Jones. Not power. Joe has the whole package to beat Pavlik, so he is not ducking him.

I would even stick my neck out and say that Arthur Abraham beats Pavlik.

The fighter who would have beaten Calzaghe was Dariusz Michalczewski. Durable, relentless, power and size.

I think Jones could win by KO or UD however a UD is more likely as Jones even after he kd an opponent usually lets him survive till the final bell. But then again timing can kill and I don't doubt that Joe will be countered at will. I still would'nt be that surprised if Joe won a UD. I'm really curious to see how Joe will approach Jones...will he go straight at him or be more cautious than usual??????

    Good point Dorf:good
However I think you're discrediting Jones maybe just a bit, as you've forgotten the most important attribute of all, ring intelligence, of which Roy has in spades over Joe. Jones poor defense? I don't think so one bit, he merely relies more on movement than being stationary with the gloves up. Also I think clean, effective punching will certainly go to Jones. The workrate of Jones is immaterial here as I think he will allow Joe to make mistakes(which he makes from time to time)
Think about how often Joe is throwing wide punches with his head right there for the picking.......Jones will not hesitate

Some are really underestimating Jones here..
This fight is just as important for Jones as it is for Joe, however the focus from fans and the media has been on Joe, him changing his mind and talking about retirement. I think Jones will remind us all that he is still the master, he will come into this fight in superb shape and will certainly not be gassing by the 3rd round. Jones knows this is do or die for him and will prepare as such. If you think for a moment that Jones is taking Joe lightly you will be surprised come fight nite

Can't wait to see you giving Joe some MAJOR props for this win RealIzm :good

My advice would be to take the lead of some of the more canny Joe haters, and completely rule out the fight as meaningless and void. That way you don't have to give any credit, yet if RJJ pulls out the miracle they can have a field day hating.

No sane person believes that RJJ would be foolish enough to take Joe lightly, it would be vice versa if anything based on previous form & quality of opponents defeated.

Now, for your top sentence.... correct me if Im wrong but did RJJ not see the 2nd & 3rd Tarver fights aswell as the Johnson fight as do or die ?

Jones is a few yrs older now AND Calzaghe is better than both those guys & PLEASE dont try & say he isn`t.

It will take a brave man to bet a lot on Jones in this fight but anything can happen.

    :thumbsup

TFFP you know that I'm not a Joe hater. I would be just as pleased with a Joe victory as I would a Jones one. Despite the fact that I'm picking Jones to win, I wouldnt be shellshocked if Joe did in fact beat the great Jones Jr. It will be a great fight.
As for Joe I wish he would've done abit more with his career, and you must admit your own frustration with Joe constantly changing his mind, avoiding Pavlik, and being so intent on retireing undefeated(Its highly overrated)as we both know Joe has 2 or 3 solid fights left in him

and I have no problem at all giving credit where its due mate:)
    Cheers

Well, that depends. You do have the knack of calling him Calslappy, and other such names

However, no, I'm not that bothered about Pavlik like everybody else. Neither should you be if you still think Jones is good enough to win. But the reason I'm not bothered is because Pavlik only has two wins over one serious opponent, and there are two other beltholders in his division - he is not Marvin Hagler or anything close and it is not a defining fight for Calzaghe - but simply a good win.

You'll find if he beat Pavlik people would claim he's not fighting the guys in his own division, like Dawson.

Also Pavlik should be fighting Abraham.

Same here. I've been saying that Jones beats Calzaghe by KO for the last 8 years, I'm changing nothing. The guy with the better skills wins the fight, and thats Jones all day long.

look what Hopkins did to Calzaghe, he couldn't miss with the counter right-hand. Jones throws that punch better than anyone, and unlike Hopkins can actually follow it up with blistering combinations.
