How significant would you say Roy Jones going up from MW to winning a title at HW is? Sure, it's a good accomplishment, but look at who he beat to get it. He beat Ruiz, a relatively small, feather-fisted HW. He also won the trinket WBA belt, and not the lineal HW championship, like Fitzsimmons and Spinks did against Corbett and Holmes, respectively.

It is an impressive achievement, because nobody else has done it since Tommy Burns, and I don’t expect to see somebody do it any time soon. It is all very well saying that a fighter only achieved a given feat against weak opposition, but weak eras are ten a penny. If it is not a significant feat, then somebody else would do it.

Would have been better to be number 1 but that meant going through or awaiting the retirement of Lewis and Vitali.

But winning a title at hw after being the best MW in the world is a great achievement.

    Look at the whole picture.

Where was Roy in his career?

    How old was he?

How many fights had he had?

Look at the manner of his victory.

Look at who else has achieved that, if anyone, from Roy's era.

    Who's done it since?

    Ruiz wasn't great.

But if it was that easy, why weren't other LHW's and CW's knocking on his door in 2002?

Why haven't more fighters accomplished the same feat?

It's only when you take into consideration all of the above, that you can see that it's a better win than what most people think.

Paper titlist. John Ruiz was garbage, so the win doesn't really mean ****. End of story.

Bloated Toney also schooled Ruiz, he was a complete joke of a fighter. I'm sure plenty of others would have too if given the opportunity.

I've said it before, I'll say it again - had Jones retired after beating Ruiz, he'd be mentioned with Ali and Robinson as one of the best ever.

    No he wasn't.

    Don't exaggerate.

He was a top ten HW.

    You make your own opportunities.

Are you telling me that there were loads of LHW's wanting to fight Ruiz, but they didn't get the chance?

    B.S.

This is what guys like you miss when typing your nonsense.

We could all list names of guys, who we think could have beaten Ruiz, had they took the fight.

Bu they didn't, and that's the point.

You've got guys today like Ward, telling us how he'd like to fight at HW at the end of his career.

Yet he seems reluctant to even move up to LHW.

The fact is, Roy did it, and nobody else apart from Toney did. Plus Toney did it, because he couldn't LHW or CW.

So go away and list me all of the LHW's who moved up and dominated a HW.

Let's see how many fighters you can name.

    Spinks deserves huge credit.

But Roy won a MW title, and is only 5'10.
