Roy Jones's Resume : A Defence

RJJ's resume is clearly superior IMO to contemporaries Hopkins and Toney.

The Hopkins win doesn't count for much though. It's a good win, but nothing really special.

McCallum is not one of Roy's best wins, Mike was shot then and well above his best weight yet still went the distance and gave Roy a few problems.

He has a good resume, nothing special, but one of the better resumes of his generation.

It's almost hysterical how so many boxing fans like to jump on RJJ's record like he fought no one....

Who did Hopkins fight that makes his resume untouchable ?
Tarver at 175 ? Yes that's very good at that point in time.
De La Hoya at 160 ? De La Hoya started fighting at 130 for **** sake..
Trinidad at 160 ? Trinidad was a true welterweight, not Middleweight !
Winky Wright ? Winky jumped from 154 to 160 then 170 to fight B-Hop..

How about Calzaghe ?
Bernard Hopkins at 175 ? A legend but still a 43 year old man !!! Let's wait to see what Pavlik does with him to give a final verdict on that win...
Kessler ? That's a very good win at that point in time !
Jeff Lacy ? An overhyped fighter will little skills but power...
Chris Eubank ? An over the hill fighter diminished from wars to Collins and Benn..

Roy Jones could have a better record and met more quality opponents I agree...but he has nothing to be ashamed of when comparing to guys like Calzaghe and Hopkins for example !!!

100 years of History? LOL. Did Roy beat Lennox Lewis? Fitzsimmons beat THE Heavyweight Champion. That is right THE Heavyweight Champion of the world. Roy handpicked and beat a PAPER beltholder at Heavyweight.


Beating Ruiz did not make any kind of legit History. Hell Mike Spinks stepped up beat THE Heavyweight Champion and stayed at Heavyweight just as Gene Tunney had done before him. And you want to compare beating John Ruiz to that? :rofl

Toney looked good in that fight.... Roy was just way too much for him.

Hopkins and Jones were both green... The fight would have been only slightly closer when they were both in their primes. And since you totally discredit Roy's victory over Toney, ill add that Roy beat Hopkins one handed.

Roy was outweighed big time by Ruiz, the body size of the two in the ring was amazing to see how much smaller Roy was. It is an amazing victory on that alone, let alone Ruiz was holding a Heavyweight belt like it or not.

Virgil Hill was 34, not 60.... And still a good win considering the fashion in which Jones won, and considering Hill had enough left in the tank to move up a weight class and get a cruiserweight strap.

Roy beat Tarver in the first fight, close but clear decision. Robbery??? Please..atsch

 

Out of curiosity what makes Bhops resume any better? Not that i don't think Bhop has a great record, but he has only beaten one quality fighter who is naturally a middleweight or above? James Toney is pretty self explanatory but Bhops? I don't think so. His biggest wins were against welterweights and junior middleweights.

 

Biggest Roy fan? Maybe... Worst nuthugger, no! If I was the worst nuthugger, i would not rate Jones where he belongs, somewhere in the low 20's of all time greatness.

Roy Jones is my favorite fighter ever, but I believe I am very fair and subjective when it comes to him, something you are not.:deal

 

I totally disagree with that statement. Tarver could barely hold on to a one fight winning streak after he beat Jones in the rematch.

 

Tarver is a one hit wonder....sounds like a few bands of the past !!

 

He didn't just beat Toney,hopkins and Toney(who has 30-40 lbs heavier then him, RJJ was 193), he completely outclassed them.
