Roy Jones's win over Antonio Tarver looks better in retrospect

Tarver started off that fight great, but took his foot off the pedal for some reason after the first 4 rounds. Tarver could've won that fight, but he disdn't take advantage of Jones when Jones was tired

Lost the first 2, won the next 4, lost the next 2, won round 9, lost round 10, then won rounds 11-12. 115-113 Jones.

Jones did some good bodywork, which was probably a reason why Tarver did so much staring in the middle of the ring and not doing enough punching. He was leery of Roy's body shots.

I don't agree. Other fighters have bulked up muscle for one or two fights, even at an "advanced" age, and still come back down with little or no problem. Archie Moore and Bob Foster both did it a few times, and they didn't have the advantage of day-before-fight weigh-ins in their "come down" fights.

I'm not denying Roy was weight drained for the first Tarver fight, but a fighter having to win while weight drained for a fight is nothing new. The whole thing is getting overblown now, with every fighter looking to use "weight drained" as an excuse every time he underperforms. The only fighter who has a legit excuse IMO was Byrd, seeing as he is a career heavyweight. And even then, I thought he was washed up even before he moved down (and I picked him to lose BTW).

Pacquiao said the same thing before his fight with DLH. Fighters make up bullsh-t like that all the time. I hardly consider a claim like that reliable because "Roy himself" made it.

Actually Michalczewski was the consensus #1 LHW when Roy moved up.

He looked terrible in that fight. Really, really bad. A good effort to win it though.

Roy Jones should've retired after he beat Tarver....if he did that Calzaghe would've never mentioned his name....

Jones bulked up to 200lbs. He walks around at 185ish. Weighed 200lbs for the Ruiz fight. (The scales were messed up, Mackie Shiltone weighed Roy before and after the weigh in and he was at 200lbs. Also the person weighing the scale said he messed up and did the weights quickly toget the fighters on and off the scale.) - Note that reason is a lot lighter than normal as well.

Jones added about 15lbs of muscle, Unlike most fighters go to weight restricted class.
