Roy Levesta Jones Junior vs. Eric Watkins RBR

Round 2

Jones Jr. is covering up as he is backed into the ropes. Watkins is looping his right hand in earnest, spamming it with gusto into Jones Jr.'s left ear and making some contact skidding over the raised glove with which Jones Jr. is cupping it. Jones Jr. tosses a light counter hook while turning Watkins. Jones Jr. is keeping both arms low and inviting Watkins in, dangling his fists by either hip and bending his knees and then springing into action with quick hooks and uppercuts to send Watkins reeling onto the backfoot and off balance. Watkins throws a nice shoeshine into the belly and finishes with a solidly turned over left hook scrubbing the abdomen while falling into a clinch with Roy.

Watkins only has five knockouts to his credit but is approaching this like he wants to be the fifth to stop the legend. VERY aggressive start and so far his gas tank is holding up.

 

Both rounds have been close. I could see judges favoring Watkins' aggression if he weren't a nobody in with, you know, Roy Jones.

 

Hans, clear your box, fool.

 

Round 3

Jones Jr. is doing lots of clowning, with low dips, saggy shoulders, head lolling side to side lazily, grinning and taunting. Quick but intentionally wide and telegraphed shots by Jones Jr., showing off his superior timing and instincts built up over decades of experience, making his 28 year old rival seem amateurish with his serious attempts to land on him in the midst of the silliness. Watkins is going for it, though, surrendering his body as he comes hurtling inside with earmuffs on eating counter hooks on the starboard temple while pumping in powerful 1-2-1-2s at the chest and hammering down with right hands over the top, occasionally grazing the badly receding hairline of the erstwhile p4p #1.
