This content is protected Pretty good interview. Rogan sometimes surprises about what he knows about boxing, because at one point he mentions how much he enjoyed watching Donald Curry. Roy mentions at one point that his dream fantasy matchup was always Sanchez vs Pedroza, which is really cool. Roy ALWAYS mentions how he idolized Sanchez. It's always refreshing to listen to Roy, cause you realize he's a really down-to-earth guy with a lot of knowledge of the sport and respect for past greats. Not a self-absorbed pri!ck like Floyd.
Yeah, Roy's cool. Joe too. I do like that Jones does have an ego too. I don't trust a fighter who is so unnaturally humble that they can't give themselves credit. Things like when he said that Reggie and B-Hop were on his level skillwise, but his hand-speed set him apart from them. There's also his 'RJ mode' which I found quite funny. Especially given that two of the three times he used it, he produced two of the best performances I've ever seen (Vinny and Griffin II). I hope nobody tells him that Sanchez would've lost to Pedroza. It'd break his little heart.... and yeah, Rogan does sometimes come out with the odd little nugget which you wouldn't expect him too. Roy hit harder than GGG BTW.
He mentioned that Sean O'Grady once told him that he (O'Grady) envied Roy for being able to walk away from the control of his father. Let's you know that Sean thinks Pat O'Grady ****ed up his career.
That was a great podcast interview. Glad he's doing well. Roy Jones Jr really does come across as a down to earth guy with a lot of passion, love, respect, and knowledge for the sport of boxing. You can see that he really does care about giving fans what they want whenever he fights. Just makes me respect him even more as a person.
For a guy who spent the latter part of his career taking heavy damage, he sounds great. Glad to see him doing well. I hated watching those last years...
