So special all it took was another couple of years for a past prime, blown up, out of shape MW in James Toney to duplicate it.

On par with De La Hoya bull****.Hopkins' achievements are far superior to De La Hoya's.

Outside of Archie Moore, then probably yes. H2H a match for anybody.

Oscar has the better resume, won titles in 5 weight classes legitimately, and faced better opposition on a more consistent basis. He was rated as highly or higher than Hopkins throughout both fighter's primes. Both fighters lost some of their fights to the top opposition, but also won some, with Oscar's quantity of big fights giving him the edge in that regard. Hopkins's only edge is longevity really, and skill-set if you want to go there, but that doesn't fall under "achievements".

Ezzard Charles was better than Moore. Spinks and Foster clearly rank ahead of Jones, as do guys like Tunney, Loughran, Greb, Harold Johnson, Saad Muhammad, Galindez, etc.

Head to head he ranks higher, but still not at the top. I can't see him beating a guy like Bob Foster.

Spinks ahead of Jones? Resume maybe, but H2H Spinks wouldn't get near Prime Roy

You sound like one of those people who only knows Spinks from the Tyson KO.

I'd pick him to KO Roy at LHW.

They're worlds apart in terms of resume at the weight, and Spinks would most likely knock him out. He would present a lot of problems for Roy on the outside, which is where Roy must be superior to win, and with his aakward and rangy style he'd be able to land, and Jones hasn't felt power like Spinks had.

I admit I'm not a great fan of Spinks. I thought he won one lost one with a past his best Holmes, and although he was dominant at LHW, it was harldy a great era.

I'm pretty sure Tony didn't do that.

    Prime-for prime ?

    Unlikely.

However, in regard to the other topic, Spinks first (only?) win over Holmes was possibly better than Roy's over Ruiz.

He had less weight distance to travel, but Holmes was near prime and was an alltime top six Heavywt, IMO.

Toney beat Ruiz in 2005 only to get a DQ for being on the roids.

He won himself a paper chain world title at some point too.

Beat would mean he got a W.

The result was a No Contest.

    I watched the fight live.

    Toney was better.

But rules are there for a reason.

Otherwise, Ben Johnson 'WON' the gold in the 1988 100 m at Seoul.

And Marilyn Jones woul have 'won' a whole bunch of Olympic medals instead of doing time.
