I just read that there's a rematch clause in tonight's fight and that don't smell good. I know that money features bigly in this. Hope there's no funny business going on to double the money !
A gross generalization, bordering on arrogance. And coming from a poster with a somewhat telling username. There are and good posters and lesser posters on both sides of the divide here. This does not become you, Sweetpea ! You're usually better than that.
In general terms, any statement like the one Pea made would be ill-advised. However, in this particular instance I have to agree with Pea. I know who voted for Jones, and I know what he meant, and I concur. There are many names I've never seen, and there are a couple of names I know well from either dishing out abuse for no reason or very obviously being on here to start arguments over nothing. As in everything, my rule is take each case on its merits. In general terms, Pea was wrong to say that. However, if you have experience enough to know what he was referring to, then his statement is legitimate IMO.
It is very close. Sweetpea undisputed LW champ and held 140, 147, and 154. The biggest title to win is the HW and RJJ did it even though it was not the best HW champ to beat (Yes, Ruiz is a friend of mine and I threw him under the bus). RJJ was also a four division champion. The Hurtado fight was amazing and his opposition was deep, but the edge of winning a HW title from MW is a great achievement. I don't know where I fall if I am a bad poster or not, but this could bother others. I do think SweetPea is a informative poster, but he is a great fan of Whitaker like I am of Camacho.
I wouldn't be shocked one bit if prime Spinks beat prime Jones at 175. I'd make Spinks the slight favorite, actually. The late 70s/early 80s was one of the greatest eras that light-heavyweight has ever had. Saad, Qawi, E. Muhammad, Johnson, Davis brothers, Galindez, Lopez, etc..
Whitaker - close but clear. In terms of talent, they are pretty close, perhaps Roy edges him here, but in terms of their respective resumes and 'intangibles' PW is way ahead. Roy could have been a lot greater than he was - for some reason this didn't happen.
