Had Jones followed up the KD in the first round, the fight would have been finished. Did he lose his killer's instinct? Or, did he deliberately allow the fight the continue to entertain boxing fans further. The normal thing for a boxer to do in that situation is go for the kill. Jones blew his chance.
Calzaghe came right back at him. If there was an opportunity there, Jones missed it. Personally, I don't think there was.
That's right whatever cobwebs joe had were shook when the ref finished the 8 count, but thanks for your expertise one how to finish a fight. Maybe you should've have replaced coach merk. Idiot!
Joe came back pretending not to be hurt by trying to be cocky. I still believe Roy missed the chance to knock him out. He did not even try to.
How did you know that Joe wasn't? Every recorded KD on Joe has always been shaken off quickly after the count.
Go back and watch it again. As in the Hopkins fight, Joe was the agressor for the balance of the round. He was up at 4. And a bit pissed off. There WAS no opportunity.
Read the title of my thread: Roy should have followed up and he did not. Had he done that, Joe would have been finished. He's hurt. The fact is Roy did not even move fo the kill. He does not want to shortchange the crowd. He wanted them to be further entertained.
Its easy to say now. Same applies to Hopkins. What you have to understand is that Calzaghe has superb stamina, notice how Jones and Hopkins (who was fresh as a daisy in the 12th against Pavlik) faded late in the fight against Calzaghe. If Jones had followed up trying to knock out Calzage in the 1st and was unsuccesful he would have been knocked out later on.
That is precisely my point in this thread. Roy should have been more aggressive in following up that opportunity. Had he, the result would have been different.
Roy fought scared. If there was an opportunity RJJ was too afraid to risk taking it. BTW. I picked Roy to win.
How can Roy be knocked out later on if he followed up that KD? That singular opportunity of going for the kill has nothing to do w/ the possibility of Roy being knocked out in the later rounds. That's kinda illogical. It should be the other way around, had Roy hurt Joe after following up the KD. It could affect Joe's performance in the succeeding assuming he survived that round. My point is : No follow up. He blew the opportunity to further hurt Joe.
