I didn't see the fight, so did Roy really do that well tonight or was Lacy a complete loser? I figure it was probably a matter of which would outweigh the other, Roy being old as dirt for the sport or Lacy being a horrible fighter that should try to keep the door from hitting his ass on the way out! :yep
Lacy gobbled a 16 oz. NY Strip Steak cooked Medium Rare from the Casino kitchen 30 minutes before the opening bell, not sure if that was relevant.
It was a good fight from both fighters. Lacy attacked Jones' body and Jones counterpunched brilliantly, rope-a-doped, and then exploded with combinations each round.
Lacy fought to Roy's strengths and as a result made Roy look incredible. The fight has no bearing on any other opponent because Lacy couldn't adapt. I suspect that Lacy cannot think in the ring and can only rely on what he's trained to do.
Poor Lacy, the guy must have suffered some **** the last five years! From being the new Tyson to a nobody
Yup, I remembar that time, until he was beaten badly by calzaghe, then nothing seems to be working for such that even a shot roy jones jr. whoop his ass.
Lacy's career has been running on fumes since the Calzaghe fight and that's really all there is to it. It was already bad enough that he had to suffer through such a humiliating and physically draining loss but things got worse when he suffered that shoulder injury against Tsypko. Talk about a bad year. It's disappointing but boxing is a particularly harsh sport in that sense. In other sports you can lose and come back stronger the next time out but in boxing you cannot come back when you have the fight literally beaten out of you.
I'm gonna sound like a selfish ***** for saying this.... I feel for Lacy, he never recovered from his loss and his injury. But the SMW division has thrived without him. At least it didn't happen to someone like Adamek, Dawson, Wladimir etc; guys who basically ARE the only credible fighters in their division (yeah I know there are a couple of other decent fighters at their weights and all, but imagine how ****ed their divisions would be without them). Also, some guys manage to improve after a loss. Hell, the P4P top 10 is filled with guys who have been beaten. If Lacy had the greatness inside him then he would have come back better than ever before. But he didn't.
