This wasn't like RJ's previous KO losses where he was seriously hurt. He didn't seem that hurt but just wasn't fighting back. I think his heart wasn't in it.

I'm sure the knockdown hurt him, but I think the first shot after he got up did him in. It almost looks like Green had a running start coming back at him and just whallopped him with a right hand. Jones probably should have taken a knee after that just to buy himself some more time. Why don't more fighters do that? It's possible that would have bought him enough time, he then could have danced the rest of the round and then come out for round 2 being down a 10-7 round.

So much for Jones / Hopkins.

Congrats to Green for closing the friggin' deal.
How many fighters from Roy's past are thinking "why didn't I just bum rush this guy instead of trying to box him"?

Another life long fan in-denial. Go back, re-watch the video, check out Jones legs when the referee pulls them apart. He was done.

Well from work, the quality of the video for me isn't great, and i think his legs did wobble a time or two, but he looked to be blocking nearly all of green's blows with his gloves (cept for a couple mini upper cuts that kind of got through). I could definitely see a case for letting the fight go on because he was protecting himself which is all i thought you need to do.
After all, green couldn't keep that 'storm flury' up all round, so roy would've gotten a little breather and the ref could've better judged whether roy was in a position to answer back.

As for the 'rabbit punch' again the quality of the vid ain't great for me, it looked close, anyone else think it was?

Jones got spanked because he's shot. End of story. He was badly hurt, he was doing a dance when the referee pulled them apart. Great shot, nothing wrong with the stoppage. You guys need to let it go...Superman's dead, it's over. Find another hero.

He didn't look seriously hurt to me. It appeared to be a punch behind the ear that screwed up his equalibreum. Legs were real wobbly because of it. If he had recovered who knows what would have happened.

Jones always had a weak chin, all this time. It wasn't very obvious then when his reflexes usually enables him to avoid punches.

But unlike Ali, when Jones slowed down, his chin couldn't step up to bail him out.

Green didn't throw a rabbit punch. It was an orthodox right hand, that caught Jones behind the ear because Jones turned his head away.
It was a good stoppage too. After Roy got up Danny jumped on him with a continuous barrage of punches that Roy blocked and avoided well until Danny caught him with a couple just prior to the ref stepping in to break them up. It was at this point that it was clear that Roy was gone, as he did a half imitation of the "Zab Judah chicken dance" backing across the ring. The ref could have stopped it there, but waited until Green recommenced his onslaught with Roy copping another big shot, displaying no ability/will to defend himself.
It was only going to get uglier for Roy, and i'm glad the ref did his job so Roy can retire healthy

whatever wanker, go get some tea and crumpets and u might be a little less agitated. he ain't my hero and it's been obvious that superman was dead since he had to eek out a decision in tarver 1. i was simply asking b/c i couldn't tell about the shot. stoppage looked a little quick imo but understandable. my point was that jones was defending himself and blocking most of the punches and that's usually what's assessed when determining whether to stop a fight.

:dead ...This is what Jones would have looked like if the referee didn't stop the fight.

"When you defeat a legend, you become a legend"
This is a quote from Hopkins that the media picked up on. He said it in an interview for the prefight doco thats been shown here in Aus the past few days.
It's simply a nice line that was suitable for the hype of the occasion.
No ones saying that it elevates Green to Jones status, but it does create a level of notoriety for Green that people will remember.
