Jacare and Palhares beat him like he's nobody.

 

He loses to the Brazilians imo, the Yanks are harder to Judge, maybe beats Nate and Jake, maybe they are too strong and atheltic for him. He has similar trouble with Wallid

I don't think Belfort could beat Royce. Belfort has never shown any great grappling skills, just athleticism and basic knowledge.

 

Royce v Shammy 2 fella? I know Vitor isnt the same league as Kenny, but he does have legit BJJ black belt + athleticism . Royce needs someone to tire and make a mistake, hard to judge if Belfort would do either, but Id give him the benefit of the doubt

belfort and marquadt would most likely rack up points by repeatedly taking him down.
havent seen much of leites so cant say
amazingly i think royce would beat silva. silvas bjj isnt aggresive enough and to my knowledge doesnt train that much in a gi. royce would find the holes in his game.

 

It's rumor, I don't have a source, but I've always heard Carlson gave Belfort his black belt(Belfort was purple at the time) just to join his team because of his outstanding athleticism. He has had plenty of time to legitimize that belt since then of course. Hell, he's had enough time to start from scratch and earn a black belt since then.

What I did not take into account initially was Belfort's size. It's not like he will really be 185 if they were to grapple at 185. If Royce shows up in the 170's, he could be giving away 20lbs in that match-up. I think Royce had more technical skill than Belfort, and would beat him if there were no time limit; but must concede he could not defeat Belfort in a sport bjj match.

 

Good points there fella It's extremely difficult to Judge, these guys mainly fight nogi and Royce obviously fought with one and against guys who had no idea what he was doing. It's worth noting that he was chosen because he was one of the physically weaker Gracie brothers to fight in the UFC. And Royce mainly highlighted the self defence aspect of BJJ, I think it's fair to say. He's not really and aggressive guy in the way he fights

But I still think anyone with good athleticism and sub defence could beat Royce (Shammy 2, Saku, Hughes), but again it's hard to Judge if either of these guys would make a mistake and allow Royce the opening which he would undoubtedly take. But on paper, it's hard to see Royce over coming these deficits even though he has the advantage in pure technique and experience in straight BJJ

No gi, they all beat him. None of those guys would have gotten owned by Hughes the way he was. With gi, I'm not sure. Going from no gi to with gi is ****ing hard because of all the extra defensive holding you can do and all those ****ing collar chokes that I never see coming. He may beat some of them for that reason.

 

How often does that happen in a straight-up BJJ match? Or is that just how things are at the 209?
