I think that's the real reason for the lethargic nature in which Woodley fights, the gas tank. He knows that he can blow pretty much anyone out of there inside a round, but what if he doesn't and gasses? With his build it's impossible to maintain a high work rate for 5 rounds, hell probably not even 3! Look at his fights with Gastelum and Shields... They are just as bad as the last two and he literally does nothing.
His accuracy and counter punching has definitely come on loads as has his TDD. I wouldn't favour MacDonald in a rematch, but unfortunately we'll never see it. The top 6 are Thompson Lawler Maia Masvidal Condit Magny. Rematches with Lawler and Condit have to happen imo. Also a fight with Masvidal would be very interesting. Magny would be a good fight, and there's the possibility of them buying Lima as well. Woodley will never put asses on seats but his skill is what impressed me.
Woodley should've closed the show at some point, Maia's face was badly swollen after the 1st and he could barely see out of one eye. Very lacklustre performance.
Ehh.. I don't see it.. He's always been pretty accurate and lethal. See the Marquardt fight all the way back in Strikeforce, then the Koscheck and Hieron knockouts. Don't see how he beats MacDonald. Just a really bad style matchup for him... How he keeps his back to the cage, never initiates would see him soundly outpointed again. Lawler looked pretty poor against Cerrone, actually thought he lost that 29-28. Condit seemed to be leaning towards retirement last I checked... Have zero interest in Masvidal/Woodley tbh. Too small and would easily be controlled against the fence and on the mat. The two most interesting fights for Woodley would probably be Usman and Ponzinibbio. I will say this though.. In beating Maia - Woodley did establish true and undeniable lineage. If you can see what I'm getting at here with Condit getting robbed by Lawler and losing to Maia. Also, while I may be a fierce critic and far from a fan of the guy.. He's still facing the best competition that's available, just want to make it clear that I'm not trying to rob him of all credibility.
How on earth would Woodley beat MacDonald in a rematch ? I don't see that at all. Does anyone remember watching Woodley-Mein years ago in Strikeforce ? The worst display of lay'n'pray I have EVER witness. Absolutely hilarious that the incompetent ref never stood them up.
If ever there is a rematch with MacDonald time will tell I guess but doubt it will ever happen. I thought Lawler looked good against Cerrone but it could have gone either way I agree there. There was every chance of Cerrone getting the nod in that one. Masvidal is a great all round fighter though and he's the high ranked man that Woodley hasn't faced. Woodley's level of competition is what I like best about him. In fact because Dana hates him, I expect this gauntlet to continue because Dana does not want him as his champ. He'll put him in tough fight after tough fight and then drop his contract once he loses.
