    That's a very questionable statement. Valdez never beat anyone on the level of a prime Griffith (Briscoe was the best fighter he beat, and yet he couldn't even beat an ancient Griffith). Personally, I'd say Valdez ranks among the most overrated fighters on this board, right alongside Liston and Ken Buchanan.

    That having been said, Carter was a frontrunner, and if Valdez could take his bombs for the first few rounds, he'd have an excellent shot at coming on strong late to take the fight by decision or late TKO.

    But Valdez was a champion and Carter was just a contender .

    Now that's what i expected .
