Prime for prime, two of the greatest Bantams of all time. 15 rounds.

Olivares wins via KO he was amazing when he beat Rose I don't see Zarate beating him if he comes in like that.

Olivares by stoppage at his best. He'd eat him up on the inside I think, more variety. Capable of dealing with taller boxers as well.

This matchup was done in an old Ko magazine,[now sadly defunct],I used to enjoy the head to head articles, can't remember whose opinions were given ,but I know they went for Olivares and I would too.

I go with Zarate, monster power, good chin, tall, decent boxer.Although Olivares had a great body assault, big left hook, good boxer, solid chin, he also tended to cut easily.

Although Ruben did have trouble with the taller Alexis Arguello & was defeated. Who had a simular build to Zarate.

That was one of the fights I was referring to actually. The past prime, smaller Olivares was actually outboxing Arguello prior to being stopped. He also gave Rose a beating, which has been said.

Yes, & there was a dream match up with a whole description of a fantasy match up in either World or Big Book of Boxing Magazine. And if memory serves me correctly they had Zarate by late round stoppage over a badly cut Olivarez.

I was thinking that Zarate is my number 1 at bantan, but Ruben must be one of the finest h2h at this weights history though. Ruben more skilled on the inside and technically better offensively, but Zarate was so strong and powerful for anyone to fight. Hard to pick, i'll just go with Zarate for the sake of picking some1.

Bahh, I thought you had it right for a second!

Where then do you rate Jofre, and the 3 collectively? I consider him the clear #1.

When i said Zarate is my number 1, i meant legacy-wise, and that in a h2h sense at his best Olivares is one of the best.

I dont have a h2h list, but my ATG bantam list would PROBABLY be something like -

    1. Zarate
    2. Jofre
    3. Olivares
    4. Brown
    5. Ortiz
    6. McGovern

Just the first 6, but imo, numbers 3,4, and 5 could be swapped around? I know you may have a problem with Jofre's resume, but i really like him there.

You have a list Pea? Mine's well open for revision.

His resume prior to losing to Gomez at 122 was not phenomenal, though he took on some good fighters, and some high-risers like Alfonso Zamora. Jofre had the better resume for sure, as did Olivares, though he was a bit less consistent than either.

I like Jofre at #1, Olivares at #2, and Zarate at #3. Brown did a decent bit of work at higher weights, but I like him in my top 10. And McGovern did a good bit of work at Featherweight for the most part. I'd throw George Dixon in there if he's in. Harada as well.

I think it may be something like:

    1. Jofre
    2. Olivares
    3. Zarate
    4. Dixon
    5. Brown
    6. McGovern
    7. Ortiz
    8. Harada
    9. Herman
    10. Chandler

Like Jofre, Zarate's only legit. loss was to one man. When he retired the first time. The great Wilfredo Gomez. (The decision against Pintor is not even worth mentioning). Both are clearly the best the division has to offer.

Good list, but I think a loss early in his prime in his natural weight. against Chu Chu Castillo, hurts Olivares to be in the top two. While Zarate was very impressive in knocking out fellow knock out artist Alfonso Zamora in thier epic clash in Los Angeles.
